The Rain God's Mission of Compassion
An Interview with Li Guan
Recorded on March 17, 2021

This is a record of an interview with Li Guan, the Rain God, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Nature. This account reflects upon her journey from a human life to a deity, and her current mission to assist in saving the world. Recorded by the disciple Shi Faxi on March 17, 2021.
Li Guan speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Li Guan. I am deeply grateful to Practitioner Su for providing us with this opportunity today, allowing us to participate together in the mission of saving the world. I often ask myself: how many in this world are suffering under the weight of worldly emotions? There are so many unpredictable events in life—who can truly determine their own fate? We are often forced to simply follow the currents of destiny within this cycle of reincarnation.
In the past, I was once an ordinary human being, experiencing the joys and sorrows of life and death in this world. Within the cycle of reincarnation, there are simply too many variables. Only those who possess the clear awareness to reach the end without becoming lost in the delusion of the world can truly be called the masters of their own lives. Back then, I desperately hoped to be such a person—someone who would not be controlled by the whims of fate."
The Weight of Collective
"The task of calling for rain is incredibly magnificent. Today, the seasons of the world are unstable, and the climate shows many erratic changes. Yet, these are all manifestations of the laws of karma and cause and effect. Originally, one would have to follow these karmic laws, and one could foresee that the future climate would encounter great disasters. The various deities responsible for managing the weather in different regions can only act in accordance with the laws of Truth and the finality of the laws of karma and cause and effect. Even if we know that sentient beings will suffer, those of us tasked with this responsibility cannot simply change things, because everything must be done according to the principles of the universe.
Humanity truly needs to change. So much of the current karma is created by the people themselves. The ignorance and selfishness of human beings have filled this world with heavy karma. The current climate changes are the direct consequences of this Collective Karma—the destruction of the natural environment, air pollution, water contamination, deforestation, the discharge of harmful substances, and the impact of various chemicals on the ecosystem. These consequences are burdens that all living beings in the future must bear together."
A Call to Stop Creating Karma
"Global warming is causing many species to migrate or go extinct; this is an extremely serious problem. I urge everyone not to ignore the speed of these changes. At every single moment, this problem is intensifying! I, Li Guan, hope that everyone will stop creating further karma and begin to take this issue seriously, focusing on how to bring about real change.
The of Practitioner Su is something we deeply admire. We are now actively cooperating with all the operations to adjust rainfall. Because Practitioner Su possesses a selfless and compassionate heart, many laws of karma and cause and effect can be shifted and adjusted through the power of such a great vow. Today, the adjustment of rainfall is only the first step."
The Compassion of Practitioner Su
"Deities from all regions are actively cooperating with Practitioner Su's actions. We are now gradually increasing the rainfall in Australia. Although the effect is not yet overwhelmingly significant, everyone must consider: how vast is the Collective Karma of this world? Originally, this karma was impossible to turn around. The fact that it can now be gradually adjusted and changed is entirely due to the resonance of Practitioner Su's vows and the Buddha's . Even if the change is currently minute, such a beginning is already a most magnificent transformation. People of the world should cherish this. Those who have faith should support this with all their might and join in the mission of saving the world. When everyone sets their hearts on this together, the power will be immeasurable.
All the deities are now actively joining in. Every adjustment, every change, is being carried out step by step, following Causal Conditions and the degree to which things can be moved. Therefore, if the people of the world can join in this mission—including changing their hearts, correcting their behaviour, and setting their minds on saving the world—these actions will become the very power that drives this transformation, and the difficulties of the greenhouse effect in this world can be resolved. This is why education in the world is so important. If more people awaken their awareness, the mission of saving the world will proceed much faster and more easily. If people can learn to stop destroying the environment and learn to change their own bodies and minds, this will have a positive influence and play a crucial role. If we proceed from all aspects, the results will be even more perfect! The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is truly a magnificent precious land. People of the world, do not doubt or be suspicious anymore. You should know to grasp this opportunity, cherish it, and participate actively."
From Human to Guardian Spirit
"We are responsible for managing water and the rainfall in various regions; many people call us the Rain Gods. In folk belief, when farmers and fishermen want to pray for favourable weather, they offer us sacrifices, hoping for abundant rain every year, for no disasters to occur, for a bountiful harvest, or for smooth sailing at sea. We often hear such prayers. Regarding these matters, we also do our best to assist and adjust according to what is feasible, but we must always follow the laws of Truth.
In the past, I was the daughter of a magistrate. Later, I died by drowning and became a water spirit in the river, waiting for a chance to be replaced so I could escape. I waited for a very long time until I finally encountered a girl who had accidentally fallen in. This girl was delicate and pretty. At first, I wanted to take her life to replace mine, but at the very last moment, I could not bear to do it. Instead, I sent her soul back into her body and used my strength to push her back to the shore. Just then, the girl suddenly opened her eyes. She saw me and even smiled at me. Just as she was about to speak to express her gratitude, people arrived at the shore. I quickly returned to the river, and the girl was rescued. Since then, it has been rumoured among the people that there is a guardian spirit in the river. Everyone worked together to build a temple for me, and based on the girl's description, they cast a golden statue to worship me. During festivals and holidays, people would come to offer incense and sacrifices. Some also believed that I could protect children so they could grow up smoothly. Although I am not as great as everyone says, from that day on, I began to take on the responsibility of guarding the villagers and protecting the children.
After many years, I helped many villagers who had accidentally drowned and helped some children overcome disasters. One day, I was summoned back to the Heavenly Court, and the Jade Emperor appointed me as the Rain God, responsible for the rainfall in that region. I gladly accepted this job, until I met Practitioner Su in this lifetime.
In truth, meeting Practitioner Su is a result of past Causal Conditions. Before I died by drowning, I had supported Master Kuei-chi in a temple—who is none other than Practitioner Su today. Perhaps it is because of that past connection that I am able to meet Practitioner Su now. I am very grateful for the arrangement of the Buddha's power, which allows me to participate in the mission of saving the world today, to be liberated from the suffering of reincarnation, and to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I am deeply grateful.
I cherish this opportunity very much and will work actively. Once again, thank you. Gratitude to Namo Amituofo, gratitude to Practitioner Su. Namo Amituofo."
