Teachings from Namo Amituofo:
The phrase 'qiong qiong song song' appears within the Infinite Life Sutra. It describes the state of people in this world who feel utterly lonely, helpless, and fearful, not knowing where they are heading or what their ultimate destination might be. This is one of the fundamental characteristics of the worldly condition.
The Echoes of Solitude Within
This four-character phrase is an incredibly accurate description of the human condition. Indeed, deep within the hearts of many people, this exact feeling exists. Sometimes, this state of being is visible in a person's external speech, behaviour, and intentions. At other times, it remains hidden, buried deep within the recesses of the heart. This feeling is closely linked to one's individual personality, but it is also a significant component of one's .
The term 'qiong qiong' refers to a state of being lonely and without support. If you find yourself experiencing such a state, you might wonder why this has become your reality. According to the laws of karma and cause and effect, if you feel lonely and helpless, you must ask yourself: have you treated your parents or elders with this same coldness or neglect in this life? Have you lived your own life without showing filial piety or care for your parents? Have you frequently forgotten the immense kindness and guidance bestowed upon you by your parents and teachers?
If you search your heart and believe you have not acted in such a way, it is possible that you planted such seeds in your past lives. You are now experiencing the fruition of those past causes. This is the immutable truth that the laws of karma and cause and effect are never empty; every action leaves a trace.
The Trembling Heart in a World of Shadows
The term 'song song' refers to a state of fear, anxiety, and dread, where one does not know where they are going. People in this world are accustomed to seeking satisfaction through external material desires. They look to the world around them to provide a sense of security and fulfilment. However, when these material desires, the external environment, or the people and things around them fail to meet their expectations, the feeling of 'song song'—that deep-seated fear and anxiety—inevitably arises.
to the Radiance of the True Self
How can you avoid falling into this state of loneliness and fear? To prevent yourself from becoming trapped in this cycle, you must turn your attention inward. You must seek the most fundamental 'I'—your true self.
When you realise that your true self is something you have always possessed, you can begin the journey to reclaim it. You must move forward in the direction of finding your true self. Even if this requires a great deal of effort and diligent practice, it is absolutely worth the journey.
Once you have successfully returned to your true self, your heart will become steady and grounded. The satisfaction and you experience will arise naturally from within. This is the true freedom of -Mind-Spirit, providing you with an inexhaustible source of energy that cannot be replaced by any material thing in this world. By chanting Namo Amituofo, you align yourself with this truth and find the support you have been seeking all along.
