Words of Namo Amituofo

Words of Namo Amituofo, recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

Flowers are, in truth, one of the many forms of sentient beings. Throughout the changing seasons of the year, different flowers bloom and wither according to their own natural cycles. When and where a flower appears has long been a topic of conversation among people, yet there is a deeper reality beneath the surface. Whether it is the warmth of spring, the heat of summer, the coolness of autumn, or the chill of winter, there are always flowers that bloom in their proper time. They reveal their beauty and whisper their silent language, which is the manifestation of the flower's heart. This heart resides within the spirit of the flower—the flower-spirit itself.

The Manifestation of the Inner Heart

A flower takes on its unique characteristics based on its inner heart. These qualities include:

  • The vibrant colours that catch the eye
  • The varying sizes of the bloom
  • The delicate texture and arrangement of the petals
  • The specific shape of the plant
  • The unique fragrance it releases into the air

This follows the principle that appearance arises from the mind. When flowers with similar hearts gather together, they form a specific species, displaying their collective beauty and creating a garden of blossoms. In the spiritual realms of this world, most beings are trapped within the six realms of rebirth, and flowers are no exception to this cycle.

The Cycle of the Flower Spirits

The karmic patterns of these spirits are much like those of other sentient beings. When a flower withers and dies, the spirit does not simply vanish; it returns to the flower bud, waiting for the conditions to arise for the plant to grow once more. Thus, life after life, they exist within the world of flowers. Each spirit has a limited lifespan and exists within the specific space allocated to its kind. Within these various species, there are often flower fairies or flower spirits—those who have accumulated greater and possess the ability to move and act with more freedom within their spiritual form.

The Path to Liberation

During their long existence as a flower, if they are fortunate enough to encounter an awakened being who can open their spiritual space, they may hear the six-syllable name of Namo Amituofo. If they receive the and are able to chant the holy name of Namo Amituofo, they can finally break free from the path of the flower. Only then can the flower-spirit be reborn into a new form of life. If, at that moment, they receive the performed by the of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, they are bathed in the Buddha-light. By shedding their floral outer garment, they are liberated from the flower-body. The spirit then enters the Buddha-light and may be reborn into the human or heavenly realms. If they are fortunate enough to enter the of Ultimate Bliss, it is because that flower-spirit has accumulated sufficient good roots, blessings, and Causal Conditions.

The Infinite of Namo Amituofo

Just as beings suffering in the hells can, if they sincerely chant the name of the Buddha, rely on the power of the Buddha-name to be guided by the Buddha-light and leave their suffering behind, so too can these spirits. Even if they cannot chant the name themselves, if their affinity is rare and precious, they may be saved by the Dharma Body of Practitioner Su and guided by the light of Namo Amituofo to escape their confinement. All beings can eliminate their disasters and dissolve their karmic obstacles by hearing the holy name of Namo Amituofo. By planting the indestructible seed of the Buddha-name, they secure the future fruit of becoming a Buddha through the practice of the Pure Land path. The benefits of encountering the Buddha and chanting the Buddha's name are truly magnificent and beyond measure.

I hope that all students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre will cherish this rare and precious spiritual connection. Treasure the time you have now, while you are together with Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su.
