The True Meaning of Seeking
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
The Root of Our Desires
We often find ourselves in a state of constant seeking. Namo Amituofo teaches us that this impulse arises simply because our hearts feel a sense of lack or incompleteness. We feel that something is missing, so we reach outward to fill that void. However, the nature of our seeking determines the path our lives will take.
The Three Levels of Seeking
There are different ways to direct this energy of seeking:
- Seeking for Self and Family: When you seek only for your own benefit or for the comfort of your family, you are merely following the karmic patterns already woven into your life. This keeps you bound within the cycle of rebirth.
- Seeking for All Beings: When your seeking is directed toward the welfare of all beings, it becomes a manifestation of your vow. This is a true blessing for all, as it shifts your focus from personal gain to universal .
- Seeking for the Earth: When you seek for the sake of the Earth itself, you begin to realise that every grain of soil and every speck of dust possesses a spirit.
