To truly understand the profound meaning of the Tathagata, one must listen to the Buddha’s teachings, reflect upon them deeply, and put them into practice through the sacred sutras. This is the foundation of your spiritual journey.

The Supreme Path to Buddhahood

The Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra) is the supreme scripture for attaining Buddhahood. Within its pages, the entire path to enlightenment is laid out with perfect clarity. If you can place your full faith in these teachings and diligently follow them, you will surely attain Buddhahood. This is what it means to realise the true meaning of the Tathagata.

The Buddha’s Compassionate Vision

Namo Amituofo sees the suffering of all beings, which arises from the complex laws of and cause and effect. When the Buddha perceives that a being’s spiritual foundations are now fully matured, He will immediately reach out to save them. The Buddha does not abandon a single being. Even those as small as a speck of dust or a grain of sand are objects of His infinite and salvation.

The Perfection of Buddha-Recitation

The Gate, specifically the practice of chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, is the most perfect and ultimate path. Those who truly chant the Buddha’s name will naturally enter a state of deep peace and wisdom known as . Through this practice, you will experience the following:

  • The State of Non-Attachment: You will reach a state where you chant without the intention of chanting, and exist in the non-existence of chanting.
  • Saving Countless Beings: In this state of profound concentration, you will be able to help save countless suffering beings.
  • Active Deliverance: You will engage in , helping souls leave suffering behind to find happiness and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, all while remaining diligent and persistent in your own practice.

Living the True Meaning

To truly live the meaning of the Tathagata, you must be guided by Faith, Vows, and Practice. These three pillars will ensure that your steps remain firm and steady on the path. As you witness the suffering of others and strive to attain Buddhahood for their sake, you must embody the following qualities:

  • Diligent Practice: Maintain an active and persistent effort in your daily cultivation.
  • (Discipline), Concentration and Wisdom: Build your foundation upon these three essential pillars of the Buddha’s teachings.
  • The : Continuously nurture your heart with , Compassion, , and .
  • Rediscovering the True Self: Always seek to return to your original, pure nature.
  • Saving Beings: Dedicate your life to helping others become free from the sufferings of the cycle of reincarnation and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
  • Propagating the Dharma: Make the spreading of the Buddha’s teachings your personal responsibility, working tirelessly to save beings without ever feeling weary.

By living in this way, you are not merely reading the words of the Buddha; you are embodying the true meaning of the Tathagata in every moment of your life.
