The True Path to Saving Beings
The Third Letter of Venerable Fuhui
Reflections on the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This is a record of a letter from Venerable Fuhui, a monastic who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She reflects upon the profound reality of Namo Amituofo's presence and the mission of Practitioner Su. This testimony was recorded by the chief writer, Cao Rudi, on July 23, 2017.
Venerable Fuhui speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Today is a truly momentous day at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, as we gather for the . My eyes have been opened wide, and with each passing week, I witness something new and miraculous. I see an ever-increasing number of sentient beings arriving from the vast realm of emptiness, all rushing here with a singular, desperate hope: to seek rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Here, these spirits can perceive the shimmering golden light of the Buddha. The Buddha-light shines down with such intensity that those who are suffering or afflicted with physical ailments are bathed in the healing waters of the Buddha. They are restored to their original state, leaving suffering behind to gain happiness. It is because of this profound that these are willing to resolve their conflicts, or, if they are not yet ready, to be guided to the Dharma-Nature Land to listen to the teachings of the Dharma.
A Sanctuary of True Compassion
The immense vow of compassion and the power of possessed by Practitioner Su have truly created a Buddha-land—a place where Namo Amituofo is genuinely and physically present. In Taiwan—no, let us not limit this to Taiwan, but speak of the entire world—there are countless temples that are grand, opulent, and magnificent. Yet, I must speak the truth: not one of them possesses the true, living presence of Namo Amituofo as we have here. I am here to bear witness to this reality. I call upon the leaders and elders of the great Buddhist mountains to open their hearts and minds. If they could only visit this place once to understand the truth of the matter, the future of the transmission and flourishing of the Buddha’s teachings would be bright indeed.
The fourfold assembly of disciples at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre wishes only to contribute their modest efforts, under the guidance of Practitioner Su, to help sentient beings return to the Western Pure Land. Such attainment, such a skillful means of the Pure Land, would be a blessing for all beings if everyone could master it. However, we must never forget that the true source of this success lies in how we conduct ourselves while we are still alive. We must work to change our personality traits and latent habits or bad character traits, ensuring that we possess the true attainment required to reach the Western Pure Land. We cannot simply wait until we have become wandering spirits, hoping for someone else to perform Chao Du for us.
The Urgency of Our Time
Here, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, Practitioner Su can teach us these skillful means of practice. You do not need to wait until you have fully grasped the complex theories of the great sutras and treatises, for our time is running out. The karmic creditors of impermanence are always by our side, waiting for an opportunity. Do we still have the luxury of hesitation? Practitioner Su, in his great compassion, has even recorded live broadcasts of his 'Dialogues with the Buddha' on the internet. Even if you cannot travel to the temple for group cultivation, you can still draw closer to the Buddha through Practitioner Su’s Dharma talks and the daily teachings of Namo Amituofo.
The Buddha’s teachings emphasise Faith, Vows, and Practice. It is not enough to merely speak of these things without putting them into action. If you wish to know how to implement the forty-eight vows of the Infinite Life Sutra through one-pointed practice, you may ask Practitioner Su for guidance. To the followers and the head of the Daxiangshan Temple: I do not say this to diminish our own confidence or to inflate the reputation of others, but the fact remains—who truly has the ability to provide a 'direct flight' to the Western Pure Land? This is an undeniable reality. If we allow our own selfish attachments to prevent us from introducing the infinitely compassionate Practitioner Su to the followers of Mount Jiuhua, we will be burdened with a heavy karmic debt. To do so would be to sever the wisdom-life of others. The Buddha’s teachings speak of the oneness of all beings; we must never, for the sake of self-interest, conceal a holy place that offers a direct path to the Western Pure Land.
A Final Plea
In this life, I have not yet been able to reach the Western Pure Land myself, nor have I been able to lead our followers to rebirth there. Having encountered the rare and precious presence of Namo Amituofo at this temple, and having seen Practitioner Su guiding the way, how could I be so selfish as to keep this hidden from others? I am here at the temple, waiting for you to come and verify this truth for yourselves. Namo Amituofo."
