During the nineteenth day of the World Disaster Relief and Blessing Assembly, held for the benefit of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the entire world, we gathered to listen to the profound wisdom of Namo Amituofo. In this second session, the Buddha addressed the fundamental question that every practitioner must eventually face: What is the purpose of your practice?

The Motivation Behind Your Path

What is the purpose of your practice? Why have you chosen to walk this path? People in this world cultivate their hearts in many different ways, and the Causal Conditions that lead them to begin their practice are equally diverse. Some seek peace, some seek relief from suffering, and others seek a deeper understanding of the universe. However, as you continue along this path, you must ask yourself: Do you truly understand the goal of your journey?

to Your True Self

The true purpose of practice is to achieve awareness and to clearly realise your own heart and true self. We are currently residing within this physical body, which is composed of dust and fleeting elements. To truly succeed in your practice, you must learn to make the most of this human life without allowing the physical body to become an obstacle to your progress. This requires a profound level of awareness.

  • Transcending the Physical:
  • Do not let the desires and limitations of hinder your spiritual growth.Cultivating Awareness:
  • This quality is essential for every practitioner; it is the light that guides you through the darkness of confusion.Reflecting Inward: Ask yourself if your true self is still present in your heart, or if you have allowed your ego to create barriers that block your own path.

The Path of Selfless Giving

Many people approach their practice with a mindset of calculation, constantly weighing what they might gain. However, true practice is not about accumulation; it is about constant, selfless giving. It is the act of letting go of the ego and serving the greater good of all beings. Even when you believe you are standing on the foundation of the Truth, you must verify this within your own heart. Only when you know the truth from within can your practice be considered authentic and complete.

May you always keep the name of Namo Amituofo in your heart, for it is the ultimate guide to returning to your original nature. By letting go of the need for personal gain and focusing on the purity of your intent, you will find the clarity you seek.

Namo Amituofo.

This message was recorded by the Buddhist disciple Shi Faxi.
