The Truth of Eternal Life: Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Teachings from Namo Amituofo during the Thrice Yearning Ceremony
During the first session of the , Namo Amituofo provides this essential teaching on the nature of existence and the meaning of eternal life. It is a compassionate reminder for all beings to look beyond the fleeting, illusory experiences of this world and seek the path of true liberation.
The Fleeting Nature of Existence
Within the six realms of existence, everything is governed by the law of impermanence. Life is a series of rapid, unpredictable changes, and there is no fixed time for anything. Today, you may possess a human body, but tomorrow that may be lost. Even those who enjoy the celestial of the heavenly realms will eventually face the five signs of decay, which bring forth great terror and suffering. How can one escape the retribution of the hells? It is all a result of the causes we have planted in the past. When these conditions are ripe, we will inevitably encounter the fruits of our actions and must face the consequences of our past deeds.
Discovering the Immortal Spirit
What is true, eternal life? It is the life of the spirit, which is neither born nor destroyed. It is not limited by the physical body; the spirit is infinite. By entering the of Ultimate Bliss, one attains this eternal life, which is characterised by infinite life and infinite light. This is the ultimate destination for every practitioner who seeks to leave suffering behind and find true happiness.
Attaining Buddhahood and
In this very lifetime, you can attain Buddhahood. When you realise your true nature, your vows to save all beings will arise naturally. Because there are infinite beings waiting to be saved, you must work diligently to help all those with karmic affinity to achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This vow to save others is an eternal commitment that follows the Buddha's path. It is a path of that never ceases.
