Namo Amituofo's discourse:

The Nature of Impermanence

Impermanence refers to that which is unstable and fleeting; conversely, it is the opposite of that which is eternal and unchanging. My children, I ask you to pause and reflect: within this human world, what is truly eternal and unchanging?

Is this physical body eternal and unchanging? This body is ever-changing. It is a combination of , spirits, and , performing scene after scene of the stories of the laws of karma and cause and effect from past and present lives, playing out through birth, aging, sickness, death, and the encounters of this life.

The Transient Body

Every cell within possesses a spirit, carrying a past connection with you that manifests in this life. Because of this, your physical form is not a singular entity but a gathering of many influences. When you experience the trials of life, you are often reacting to the collective karma of these spirits residing within you.

The Volatile Heart

Is this heart eternal and unchanging? This heart is also ever-changing, never knowing a moment of peace. It is influenced by the emergence of various external and internal voices and roles, leading to different , transformations, pursuits, and desires. When this heart cannot be the master, there are as many hearts as there are spirits within the body. Whichever spirit is the master, it is that spirit's heart that takes charge.

The Fragile Spirit

How, then, can this body find peace? How can this heart achieve meditative concentration? Is this spirit eternal and unchanging? Is the soul of this spirit secure? Or is it scattered and unsolidified? Or is it without support and under pressure?

The Path to Eternal Stability

My children, impermanence is always by your side. It depends on whether you are influenced by it. Only by attaining meditative concentration and becoming an awakened being, and through that, realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood, can you remain unaffected by impermanence. This is because your Body-Mind-Spirit is pure, constantly in a deep meditative state, with your true self as the master. Your hearts and actions to follow the Buddha to save beings, helping them leave suffering behind and attain rebirth in the , will never falter.
