The Urgent Call for True Practice
The Second Letter of Zhao Puchu, Former President of the Buddhist Association of China
A Message from the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss
The Fading Pulse of the
The pulse of the Buddha’s teachings has, in many ways, fallen into a state of decline and silence. If you are able to face this reality with honesty, I invite you to come here and meet me. You may wonder why this place is able to connect directly to the of Ultimate Bliss. The reason is simple yet profound: we have truly let go of all worldly attachments. We do not maintain connections with the outside world, and we focus entirely on sincere, diligent practice. The most important aspect of this journey is cultivating the mind and changing one's nature. One must be willing to face the habits and personality traits hidden deep within one's own heart.
The Necessity of Inner Purity
Even the slightest trace of impurity or contamination is unacceptable. We must not allow even a single point of our original, pure nature to be scattered or lost. This is what it means to be a true practitioner. Such individuals are rare in this world today. Even in large, prominent temples, it is difficult to find those who truly embody this spirit. When we look at the so-called eminent monks of our time, we must ask ourselves difficult questions:
- Who among them has truly left behind greed?
- Who has truly transcended anger?
- Who has truly overcome delusion?
- Who has truly shed their arrogance?
- Who has truly abandoned all worldly desires?
I do not speak these words from a place of criticism. I speak them because they are the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Who else will tell you the reality of your situation? Will the people who offer you empty flattery, or the blind, crowded masses of followers, tell you the truth? When you are lost in your own self-righteousness, I fear that by the time you reach the final moment of your life, you will still not understand where you went wrong. You will not understand why you could not reach the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss and why you are destined to be reincarnated in the cycle of samsara once again.
A Call to Authentic
I, Zhao Puchu, dare to speak and dare to act. Regarding matters of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, and especially now that the Buddhist Association of China and the entire Buddhist community are facing such turbulence, I must speak what I know. I wish to save you. It is a tragic reality that not one person can achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss if they cannot see their own faults. Even those who carry the title of an eminent monk often fail because they are blind to their own errors. They become ill, they decline, and they eventually pass away. When a monastic leads this world, it is not about their outward appearance or their prestige. If they are only accumulating more sins, how can their path be measured?
Cherishing the Precious Opportunity
I, Zhao Puchu, wish to make a sincere appeal to everyone, whether you are a monastic or a layperson. You only have one life. It is incredibly difficult to obtain a human body, and it is equally difficult to hear the Buddha’s teachings. It is even more difficult to encounter the Buddha. Now that you have encountered the Dharma, you must cherish it. Do not let the Buddha pass you by without knowing He was there. The Buddha has come, the Buddha has passed, and the Buddha has spoken. You must cherish the Buddha’s words.
I, Zhao Puchu, stand here, casting aside the darker aspects of human nature. I believe that there is truly a place of clarity and purity in this world. Please, believe in me. I, Zhao Puchu, stake everything I have achieved in my past life as a guarantee. Come and find me, my fellow countrymen. Namo Amituofo.
Recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Shi Faxi.
