The Foundation of True Faith
To have faith in the Buddha is to possess a profound, unshakable belief in your own original nature. When you truly believe in the Buddha, you are no longer a slave to your past , but a practitioner walking the path toward . If you are a practitioner who holds this faith, you will find that your efforts in practice will naturally bear fruit. Conversely, if you lack faith in the Buddha, you are essentially failing to believe in yourself. You are allowing your life to be dictated by the heavy, blinding weight of your past karma rather than the clarity of your true self. If you claim to believe in the Buddha but do not believe in your own capacity for Awakening, or if you believe in yourself while rejecting the Buddha, you are merely acting out the patterns of your karma. This is not the true, original you.
Navigating the Perils of the Path
Those who have faith in the Buddha find it easier to succeed in chanting Namo Amituofo and in their daily practice. This is because they are not easily shaken by the external environment. They remain steadfast, moving forward courageously on the Buddha's path. This is especially true for those who have opened their eyes to the truth and have seen the Buddha; once you have witnessed the Buddha, it is much easier to maintain an unwavering, indestructible faith. However, you must remain vigilant. Even if you have seen the Buddha, if your inherent personality remains unchanged and your old habits persist, you are still vulnerable.
You may easily fall into the traps set by demons, mistaking their illusions for the true presence of the Buddha. If you are led astray by these demonic realms, you may find yourself walking down deviant paths. Your mind may become clouded, leading you to create the causes for the hells or to cause harm to yourself and others. Therefore, it is essential to possess the skills of an awakened being, to see the facts and the truth of reality clearly. You must have the guidance of a teacher who can break through these demonic illusions, or the support of a true spiritual friend who is not easily deceived. Without such guidance, when you fall into a state of , you may easily enter a demonic realm. You must be extremely cautious.
The Path to Purification and Awakening
The road of practice is filled with many hidden dangers. This is because, before you have transformed your karma, your physical body remains a vessel of . If you do not engage in diligent practice, your karma will manifest. If you are unable to face these challenges, or if you lack the guidance of a teacher or a true spiritual friend, you will easily fall into deviant or biased paths. You may find yourself overwhelmed by the suffering of aging, sickness, and death, which can cause you to lose your faith in the Buddha. If this happens, the possibility of purification and Awakening will slip away.
At Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, there are certain signs that indicate a practitioner is struggling with these obstacles:
- You are encountering demonic tests that hinder your progress.
- You are frequently falling into a state of drowsiness during your practice.
- You have not yet changed your personality and continue to commit the same errors repeatedly.
- You are becoming emotional and allowing your to dictate your actions.
- You are engaging in improper speech or conduct and failing to change your ways.
- You lack faith in the Buddha and are governed by a strong, subjective, and stubborn personality.
If you find yourself in these situations, you are likely experiencing the manifestation of your karma or are being tested by demonic forces.
A Call to Diligent Practice
You must listen to the sutras and hear the so that you can quickly change your personality. You must engage in diligent practice to dissolve your karma. Listen to the Buddha, follow the teachings of your teacher, and act according to the guidance provided by Practitioner Su. By doing so, you will be able to stop the drowsiness, halt the accumulation of karma, and eventually transform it entirely. You will be able to break through demonic illusions and walk firmly on the Buddha's path. We hope that all students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre will be active and persistent, so that you may soon realise your true nature, attain Buddhahood, and join the Buddha in fulfilling the original vow to save all suffering beings.
