The of the Spirit

At 2:15 AM, the morning service at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre begins. This is the start of a new day, a precious opportunity for the purification of our body and heart. While our physical cells and internal organs require sleep to repair and restore themselves, our spirits do not need sleep or rest in the same way. Instead, the spirit requires purification, and then more purification, to rediscover its original, innate nature. If we do not actively purify our spirit, we cannot reclaim the true abilities that belong to our original nature.

The Synergy of Body and Spirit

A purified body is the vessel that allows the spirit to master and function effectively in this world. If is plagued by illness, or if we are burdened by whom we refuse to resolve the conflict with, even a clear and purified spirit will struggle to manifest its power. Therefore, we must maintain a healthy, purified body so that the clear, luminous spirit can execute its intentions without error. When the body is free from the weight of past grievances, the spirit can truly lead our actions toward the right path.

The Protection of Morning Practice

Morning practice—through prostrations, chanting Buddha's name, and reciting the Sutras—allows us to focus entirely on the present moment. Before the body and spirit are disturbed by daily tasks or every thought and intention, we first receive the Buddha's , purification, and protection. This early dedication allows us to face the challenges of the day with clarity, efficiency, and a calm heart. It is a shield that guards our practice against the interference of the external world.

Walking the Path to Awakening

Therefore, all disciples should be diligent in their practice. You must cherish every moment of the morning service, for it is here that you elevate your spirit and purify your entire being. By consistently engaging in this daily practice, you are taking a significant step forward, moving closer to the state of an awakened being. Let us remain steadfast, ensuring that our morning practice remains the foundation upon which we build our journey toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
