Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

The Capacity for Self-Reflection

Those who possess the capacity for self-reflection are truly blessed, for they are able to listen to wise counsel and change their ways. When you recognise your own shortcomings, you can correct your mistakes and fill the gaps in your character. This is the foundation upon which you can repent for your sins and resolve the conflicts with your . If these beings are willing to resolve their grievances, and you invite them to receive , the effect of this invitation will be truly profound and effective. Looking inward, acknowledging your faults, and genuinely changing your behaviour is the essential duty of every practitioner.

The Vast Ocean of

The karma that has already manifested before your eyes is as vast as the ocean, and the number of karmic creditors you face is as towering as a mountain. The karma and creditors that have yet to manifest are even more numerous, beyond all calculation and measure. You must understand that right now, Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su are here at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This is the precise moment to help the fourfold assembly (monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen) eliminate disasters and resolve karmic obstacles. If you do not resolve these issues in this lifetime, at this very moment, when will you ever find the opportunity to do so?

The Urgency of the Present Moment

If you wait until the next life to meet these beings as enemies, who will be there to help you? You will simply be caught once more in the endless cycle of rebirth—a cycle of collecting debts, repaying debts, and settling scores of gratitude and resentment. You will be relentlessly pursued by suffering. Combined with the collective karma of the burning house of the Three Realms, where will you end up in your next life? There will be no one to save you, and you will be left to face the full weight of your suffering.

Cultivating True Wisdom

When you see the faults of others, do not let anger arise in your heart. Instead, look inward and reflect on whether you possess the same flaws. Use this as a warning to yourself, and ensure that you do not commit the same errors. If you find that you have indeed committed the same mistakes, you must change your ways immediately. Only then can you halt the accumulation of karma, eliminate disasters, and resolve your karmic grievances. Only then will you have the opportunity to make progress in your practice and realise your true nature.
