The Profound Power of Silence
In the spiritual world of the Buddha’s teachings, silence is more profound than sound. When you choose to practise silence, to stop speaking, and to turn your gaze inward, you are embarking on the essential process required to see their true nature. In the ordinary world of human , sound is the norm, and silence is rare. We are accustomed to the constant noise of the world, yet this noise often leads us away from the Truth.
The Trap of the Six Roots
Human senses are designed to be stimulated by the external world. Through the interaction of the Six Roots—the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind—with the external environment, we seek sensory satisfaction. We see, hear, smell, taste, touch, and think, and in this pursuit of pleasure, we often create a vast amount of negative . Every action we take, every desire we chase, and every attachment we form leaves a mark on our .
The Cycle of Reincarnation
The negative causes and the seeds of Goodness that we have planted over accumulated lifetimes are stored within us. When the conditions for these seeds to ripen are met, we experience the corresponding evil consequences or rewards. This is why a human life is so often spent caught in the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, death. We spend our days repaying old debts or accepting the fruits of past actions, trapped in the cycle of being reincarnated, finding it incredibly difficult to escape.
Turning Inward to Resolve Conflict
This is why, when you engage in your practice, you must learn to detach from the various entanglements of the world. If you do not, you will continue to create the causes for further reincarnated existence, suffering the results and spinning endlessly in the cycle of being reincarnated. Instead, you must turn everything inward. Do not let your Six Roots reach outward to chase after sounds or external phenomena. Instead, use that silence to withdraw your focus and look only at your own heart.
- Resolve the conflict: Sincerely work to resolve the conflict with the residing within your own spirit.
- Offer assistance: By helping your own karmic creditors—who are often your ancestors, teachers, or those you have harmed in accumulated lifetimes—you are performing to help them leave suffering behind.
- Still the mind: Stop your thoughts and cease your delusions to avoid attracting further interference and obstacles from your past negative karma.
Purification and the Unmoved Mind
At the same time, you must proceed step by step with the purification of your inner world. When you comprehensively purify your heart and mind, you will no longer be subject to the pollutions of the world. Only when you are pure and filled with Goodness can you truly see their true nature. When the wisdom of the awakened being manifests, you will be able to understand the Truth without confusion, handle affairs without being stained by them, and face people with an unmoved mind. This is the state where you can truly save the world and savebeings without being swayed or dragged down by them. You will no longer add to your afflictions or delusions. You will be able to fully utilise your capabilities to help all beingsleaving suffering and gaining happiness, and ultimately, ensure your own rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss! Namo Amituofo.
