The Gardener’s Gentle Care

The work of a gardener is to nurture the growth of every flower, shrub, and tree within the garden. Each plant possesses its own unique characteristics, its own way of growing, and even its own distinct personality. When a gardener provides care that aligns with these individual needs, the plant flourishes. However, if the gardener fails to understand these inherent traits, the plant struggles to grow, often becoming weak or eventually withering away. These plants with strong personalities are much like us, growing according to the karmic encounters and experiences they are destined to face.

The Resilience of the Humble Soul

In contrast, the small flowers and grasses of the earth possess a profound and resilient vitality. They are gentle, selfless, and accepting of whatever comes their way. When the cold winds of winter blow, they sway gracefully with the breeze, never harbouring resentment against the chill. Even if they eventually wither under the harshness of the frost, they do so with a heart full of gratitude and . As practitioners, we should aspire to emulate these small flowers and grasses, maintaining a vibrant life force while remaining compliant and grateful throughout our entire journey.

Cultivating the Garden of the Spirit

Just as a gardener must possess a deep understanding of the nature of every plant, we must learn to provide the right conditions for our own spiritual growth. Some plants require constant, attentive care to reach their full potential, while others are hardy enough to survive and thrive independently in the natural world. Regardless of their nature, all living things rely on the conditions provided by their environment or by others; they cannot exist in complete isolation.

Passing the Torch of

The gardener, however, is the one who possesses the agency to act. They utilise various conditions to cultivate life, ensuring that the plants under their care grow beautifully and healthily. Most importantly, the gardener’s duty is to train and cultivate new gardeners. By teaching others how to nurture the garden, they ensure that more plants can be cared for, helping them to grow well and live with true freedom and ease. May you be a diligent gardener of your own heart, and may you help others find their way to the light of Namo Amituofo.
