The Necessity of a Strict Guide

It is often said that a strict teacher produces high-achieving students. This is not because the teacher enjoys severity, but because a truly strict teacher possesses the profound Wisdom to perceive the unique potential of every student. By understanding the specific capacity of each individual, the teacher can provide guidance that is perfectly tailored to their needs, ensuring that their growth is both steady and authentic.

Under the guidance of such a teacher, a student learns to refine their character. The teacher helps the student to:

  • Highlight their inherent strengths without falling into the trap of arrogance.
  • Identify their shortcomings and correct them without feeling defeated or ashamed.
  • Let go of the ego and the heavy burden of arrogance that obscures the true self.

By balancing these aspects, the teacher ensures that the student remains humble yet confident, neither boastful in their successes nor discouraged by their failures.

The Purity Required for

When it comes to the path of practice, the requirements become even more rigorous. This is because the state of being an awakened being requires absolute clarity. There can be no trace of darkness, not even a single drop of impurity. Only when one achieves a state of total purity and complete Goodness can the inner light fully manifest, allowing one to see their true self.

Those who have realised their true nature are entirely selfless. They have transcended the small, limited self to embrace the vastness of the . Through the power of their Six Roots, they are able to reach out and help all beings leave suffering behind and find true happiness.

The of the Awakened

An awakened being may seem to have no mind of their own, yet they possess the capacity to contain all hearts. They are able to:

  • Observe the needs of all beings and identify the obstacles that hinder their progress.
  • Provide guidance at the exact moment of difficulty to help beings resolve their conflicts and find clarity.
  • Teach according to the capacity of the individual, helping them to see the suffering both within themselves and in the world around them.
  • Awaken the heart of compassion and Wisdom within their students.
  • Lead by example, using both their physical actions and their words to resolve the suffering of infinite spirits.
  • Teach the practice of chanting the Buddha's name, which helps to resolve grievances and ensures that all beings can be saved and reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.

A Life Dedicated to the Dharma

The strictness of a teacher is a profound act of compassion. It serves to help students and all beings resolve the suffering of this life. It encourages diligent practice, helping one to see their true self, to save others before saving oneself, and to dedicate every moment to propagating the Buddha’s teachings. By embracing this strict path, we move closer to the ultimate goal of Buddhahood and the liberation of all beings.
