The Eternal Rhythm of the Breath
The Wind Element represents the rhythm of our breath. From the very moment we are born until the final moment of our death, this breath never ceases for even a single second. It flows in and out, sustaining the continuity of our life. It is the vital force that nurtures our spirit and elevates our heart, allowing us to continue our journey in this world.
The Interconnectedness of the Four Elements
The Four Elements—Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind—come together to form the structure of our physical body. They are intricately linked, each one giving rise to the others. Within any one element, the other three are always present. For instance, the Earth element of our body contains Water, Fire, and Wind. Our blood circulation relies on the Earth, Fire, and Wind elements working in harmony. Our body temperature is maintained by the interaction of Earth, Water, and Wind, while our breath sustains the Earth, Water, and Fire elements within us. We possess fifty trillion cells in our body. When these elements flow smoothly, our life is extended and we remain in balance.
The Illusion of the Physical Form
However, we must realise that the sensations of the human body are ultimately illusory. Do not cling to this body or become overly attached to it. Our emotions are like a fleeting dream that vanishes in the blink of an eye. Using this temporary, false body to engage in True Cultivation is the path of wisdom. We must understand that our reside within this body. They are here to settle debts, seek revenge, or repay kindnesses from the past. When you feel the torment of body and mind, you must learn to let go.
Transforming and Revealing the True Self
Everything arises from a single thought. Karma manifests through the birth and death of the Four Elements, and we pass through the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death. You must practise until you are free from wandering thoughts, reaching a state of no-thought. By transforming your karma and entering the state of emptiness, your true self will be revealed. Do not let this life pass in vain; strive to attain of a Buddha. This teaching was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
