The Universal Nature of Kinship

Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:

Where does kinship truly arise? In the vast expanse of the universe, all beings under heaven are my family. We must look beyond the narrow confines of blood relations to see the universal connection we share with every sentient being. When we realise this, we understand that our responsibility is not merely to a few, but to all.

The Source of Suffering

Where does emotion originate? It is the root of all suffering, stemming from our attachments. How many people in this world have retreated from their spiritual path because of their attachment to family? How many have sunk into the depths of samsara because they could not let go of their emotions?

Turning Towards the True Path

We must shift our focus. Do not be overly attached to worldly kin. Instead, draw close to your true spiritual teachers: Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. These teachers possess profound qualities that we should emulate:

  • Deep and vast vows to save all beings.Strict adherence to Discipline () and noble moral conduct.Active and persistent diligent practice.Mastery of meditative concentration.A heart that reflects the true self and Buddha-heart.The power to perform and save infinite suffering beings.

Cultivating True

Do not be trapped by the emotions of men and women. Instead, cultivate compassion for all things. Our goal is to help all sentient beings leave suffering behind and find true happiness. Do not be attached to family members, for such worries and troubles are difficult to overcome and will only obstruct the purity of your heart.

Do not find it difficult to let go of emotion; it is merely a product of a false, illusory body. You must use Discipline (Precepts) to distance yourself from these attachments to find the path to .
