Words from the Buddha's Heart: Children, Please Look at the Buddha
A Discourse from Namo Amituofo, Recorded by Venerable HaiZe
July 8, 2023
My dear children, is the Buddha present in your heart? Do you often find that you have forgotten the Buddha, only remembering Him in passing moments? Or perhaps you speak of the Buddha often, yet occasionally let His presence slip from your mind? Regardless of your current state, here at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, I invite you to lift your head and look upon the Buddha.
The Sanctuary of the Buddha's Gaze
Even if you are unsure whether the Buddha resides within your heart, the simple act of looking upon a statue of the Buddha will always stir the memory of Him. When you gaze quietly into the eyes of the Buddha while chanting His name, you will find that the Buddha can help you attain a profound sense of inner stillness. This is the power of the Buddha's presence; it acts as a mirror for your own true nature, reflecting the peace that is already within you.
If you are able to engage in a simple, silent dialogue with the Buddha, He will help you settle your heart and mind. He will assist you in untying the knots of doubt and confusion that weigh upon your spirit. You may wonder, however, if you are truly capable of speaking with the Buddha. Do not worry. Even if you have not yet mastered the art of this internal dialogue, the Buddha knows your struggles and understands your questions perfectly.
Finding Answers in the Buddha's Teachings
If you remain mindful and observant, you will discover that the answers you seek are already being provided to you. Within the Buddha's words and the specific teachings given to each of you, the reasons for your suffering and the methods for facing your challenges are clearly explained. You may find these answers in several ways:
- Through the direct teachings provided by the Buddha in His discourses.
- By observing the situations of others, which may mirror your own struggles and serve as a timely warning.
- Through the quiet reflection that arises when you are truly listening to the .
When you see your own problems reflected in the experiences of others, take it as a sign to be vigilant and to return to the right path.
Unifying the Ten Directions
My children, please look at the Buddha. When you place your palms together in prayer, you are bringing the entire ten directions into a single, focused heart. As you chant the Buddha-name, let go of all worldly concerns. In this moment, there is only the Buddha. Let your ears listen to the sound of the Buddha-name, let your eyes rest upon the Buddha, and let your heart and mouth chant in perfect harmony. Every syllable of the Buddha-name should be heard clearly by your ears, felt deeply in your heart, and spoken with sincerity by your lips.
Allow the sound of the Buddha-name to wash away the dust and grime that has accumulated upon your heart over countless lifetimes. Let the Buddha-light bring you wisdom and purity. Let the dignity and profound silence of the Buddha's image provide you with a source of unwavering stability and strength.
The Radiance of
The Buddha hopes that every one of you will experience the opening of your heart and the clarity of your mind, resulting in a state of Dharma . This joy is not merely an emotion; it is the natural state of mind that arises after you have achieved a deep understanding of the following:

- The profound significance of the Buddha and the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
- A clear and thorough comprehension of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
When you have attained this understanding, you will find that your heart is naturally at peace, and you will be firmly established on the path to liberation. Namo Amituofo.
