Discourse of Namo Amituofo:
The Radiance of the True Self
To realise one's true nature is to achieve a state where -Mind-Spirit are harmoniously integrated and free from all obstructions; it is the very moment one attains Buddhahood. The characteristics of Buddhahood are defined by purity, dignity, and auspicious characteristics; and Wisdom that are perfectly integrated and free from obstruction; the complete fulfilment of the Six Paramitas; no obstruction between principles and phenomena, and no obstruction between phenomena and phenomena; the joyful practice of Generosity in the world; and the tireless compassion to save all beings upon witnessing their suffering.
Whether in ancient times or the modern era, realising one's true nature requires a period of purification and testing before the heart can be clarified and the true self revealed. Both ancient and modern beings possess the same true self; all Buddhas walk the same path.
The Universal Principles of Practice
Although the historical backgrounds of practitioners differ, the underlying principles remain the same. The purity and brightness of the Body-Mind-Spirit are identical, whether in this world or other realms throughout the cosmos. However, because of the differences in time and space, while the principle of achieving a pure and flawless Body-Mind-Spirit remains the same, the methods differ, testing the Wisdom of the practitioner.
To desire to realise one's true nature, one must possess the mind within one's practice. The Bodhi vow is the vow to attain Buddhahood for the sake of saving suffering beings, remembering that one is also a being among them.
The Path of the
Living in this defiled and evil world of suffering, without the Wisdom of the Buddha, one often finds that while attempting to save others, one becomes a being in need of rescue oneself, and the realisation of one's true nature remains a distant prospect. In this age of the ’s decline, beings have profound ego-attachment; only the Two-Power method of the Pure Land can lead to success.
Chanting the Buddha's name, to "arouse the Bodhi mind and single-mindedly recite Namo Amituofo," is the wonderful method for those who believe in and practise the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Enlightenment Sutra) to realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood.
The Abode of Namo Amituofo
The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is the place where Namo Amituofo truly abides. The fourfold assembly should uphold the practice of "arousing the Bodhi mind and single-mindedly reciting Namo Amituofo" in this manner.
If the skills of chanting are not yet mature, the (Discipline) are difficult to keep, meditative concentration is hard to achieve, and Wisdom is difficult to manifest. When the skills of chanting are mature, the Precepts (Discipline), Concentration, and Wisdom can be fulfilled together, and one will not be disturbed by external conditions; this is the fundamental skill for realising one's true nature and rebirth in the Western Pure Land.
