A Call to the Chung Tai Sangha: The Path to the Pure Land
An Interview with the Spirit of Grand Master Wei Chueh
Recorded on June 7, 2017
Grand Master Wei Chueh, the late founder of the Chung Tai Chan Monastery, sought deliverance from the hells through the compassionate intervention of Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This testimony, recorded on June 7, 2017, captures his urgent plea to his followers to embrace the Pure Land practice for the sake of their own liberation.
Grand Master Wei Chueh speaks:
"The Chung Tai mountain range stands in majesty, a place where exceptional people and spiritual energy converge. Though the essence of Chan practice is deeply rooted here, not a single person has found their way to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I, Wei Chueh, am now in the West only because of the boundless of the Buddha. I earnestly hope that the Chung Tai community will awaken. I pray that many will come here quickly, for the transmission of the wisdom-life must not be delayed or mistaken.
A Message of Urgent Truth
Abbot Jian Deng, you must realise the gravity of this matter. This is not merely some idle chatter found on the internet. Do you truly believe that because Wei Chueh no longer has a physical body, my words have lost their purpose? People of Chung Tai, do not delay any longer. In every passing second, countless beings are lost. The karmic connection to the Pure Land and Namo Amituofo is slipping away.
The Weight of My Past
To all the monastics, the fourfold assembly, the -protecting lay practitioners, volunteers, and students of Chung Tai: Namo Amituofo. I am Wei Chueh, the Grand Master you all know. Yesterday, a record of an interview with me was released; today, I speak again. I am currently in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss solely because of the Buddha's compassionate salvation. I was rescued from the hells by Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. During the , I witnessed the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss and Namo Amituofo with my own eyes. I knelt and chanted the Buddha's name, and by the Buddha's mercy, I was led to rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
A Heavy Burden of
Throughout my life, I spared no effort in propagating the Chan teachings. However, because I guided the Chung Tai community during this age of the Dharma’s decline, I treated the Pure Land teachings as if they were mere wisps of smoke, passing over them lightly. This was a grave error. The Pure Land path is what Shakyamuni Buddha taught as the way to salvation during this degenerate age. Because I steered the course incorrectly and did not actively promote the Pure Land, not a single person under my guidance attained rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Consequently, I had to endure the retribution of the hells.
A Final Plea to Chung Tai
Matters have reached this point. I implore the Chung Tai community to act swiftly. No matter what, you must make the journey here; do not turn a blind eye to this truth. Abbot Jian Deng, can you see this message? Once you have read it, you must understand that this is no ordinary jest. Whether within the country or abroad, the Chung Tai system bears this responsibility, and the laws of karma and cause and effect dictate that you, Jian Deng, must take the lead. If you can turn the tide, you must come here. Do not let the people of Chung Tai remain forever distant from the Pure Land. Namo Amituofo.
The sorrowful words of Wei Chueh."
