A Final Plea from Venerable Master Wei Chueh
The Third Letter to the Fourfold Assembly
Recorded on June 8, 2017
Three articles have already been published online regarding the interviews with Venerable Master Wei Chueh. As there has been no response from the Chung Tai Chan Monastery, the Master has issued this further teaching to the fourfold assembly.
Venerable Master Wei Chueh speaks:
"To the monastics, volunteers, and students of Chung Tai: Can you truly remain indifferent to the call of Wei Chueh? I have come to realise that the direction of our past education was insufficient and deviated from the truth. We neglected the gate, the practice of chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, and the cultivation of the skills required for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Even if one's meditation skills are profound and deep, if one cannot achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land, one will still fall back into the six realms of rebirth. This is a futile practice. This is something I, Wei Chueh, deeply regret.
The Price of
I have paid for this awakening with the price of my own experience in the hells. I am desperate to tell the people of Chung Tai: do not assume that because you have practised, you are guaranteed rebirth in the Western Pure Land. Do not assume that the final thought or the ten recitations at the moment of death are easy to achieve. When the manifests at the end of life, you will have no control over your mind. If even a subtle, stray thought arises, not only will your hope for the Western Pure Land be lost, but the retribution of the hells will be waiting for you.
The Warning to the Monastic Community
Why is it said that the gates of hell are crowded with monks and Taoists? For monastics, to disregard the Pure Land Dharma gate of chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, and to fail to teach the beings how to attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, leads to the retribution of the hells. Remember this! Remember this well!
A Call for Accountability
These are the truthful words of Wei Chueh. I hope to receive a response from Chung Tai, rather than being ignored or dismissed as mere internet gossip. To treat this lightly would be a grave error! Venerable Jian Deng should address this matter, and I deeply hope that a representative from Chung Tai can visit the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. May the Buddha’s prevail. Namo Amituofo!"
