This is a record of an interview with Lu Yunlang, the grandmother of Lay Practitioner Rui Jufang, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her life, which spanned nearly a century, and her subsequent forty years as a wandering spirit. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on April 3, 2026.
Lu Yunlang speaks:
" and Practitioner Su, greetings to you both. I, Lu Yunlang, offer my respects and express my deepest gratitude. I also wish to convey my thanks to my family members. I have come to report that I am safe and at peace. I am currently residing in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a place of such brilliant, breathtaking radiance—a place so beautiful that I never could have imagined such a realm existed in all my years on Earth. Everything here shimmers with a golden light, and the great Namo Amituofo is right before my eyes, constantly smiling at me. I cannot help but express my gratitude to the Buddha, bowing and paying my respects. Then, I sit quietly to listen to the Buddha expound the ; it is truly the most magnificent sound I have ever heard.
Listening to the Dharma has made me feel completely renewed. I have never experienced such a sense of freshness in my entire life; it is as if my very soul has been thoroughly cleansed. Everything that has happened is truly inconceivable. I lived in the human world for a very long time—nearly a century—witnessing the various events that unfolded in China from the Qing Dynasty through the Republican era. Although I did not pay much attention to the grand political shifts, as a woman nearing one hundred years of age, I certainly experienced my fair share of life's trials. Eventually, I departed from the human world. While I lived for so long, I was fortunate enough to pass away without much illness, which is a great comfort to me.
However, the days that followed my passing were incredibly long—so very long. If I count them now, forty years have passed. During that time, I did not know what to call myself; I had no name, just a soul that no one knew existed. I was trapped within the spaces I cherished, the familiar environments of my life, and the places where I used to spend time with my family. I remained stuck in those spaces, never leaving. It felt as if I had never truly died, yet as if I had never truly existed either. I cannot explain this contradictory feeling; I simply drifted through those forty years in a state of confusion. It was not necessarily a time of intense pain, nor was it a time of ; it was a state of profound emptiness and bewilderment, as if I had never truly been awake.
Then, I heard someone calling my name loudly. I was startled—after all this time, I could not believe someone still remembered me. Oh, but it was not an ordinary person; it was the Buddha! It was Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. The compassionate voice of Practitioner Su called out my name, intending to lead me to the . I saw a brilliant light, and I quickly entered it, following Practitioner Su.
The time I have spent since then has been so bright, so clear, and so joyful—a feeling I had never known before. For so long, I had lived in a state of dullness and confusion, but now I am exceptionally clear-headed. Especially since arriving in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, my clarity has deepened even further. The Buddha-light here is truly different; it is vastly superior to the sunlight of the human world. Once the Buddha-light shines upon you, every person can let go of all their afflictions. You feel light and easy, without a single worry. Unlike people in the human world who are always preoccupied with this or that, burdened by so many attachments, we here are never like that. In fact, we look upon the people of the world and feel they are truly living in such a pitiable state. They think they are happy, finding joy in their worldly pursuits, but from our perspective, we are the ones who possess true happiness and true liberation. The stability and joy of the spirit—that is the only true happiness!
Beyond my gratitude for the Buddha's , I am also deeply grateful to my family. When I arrived in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, someone told me that I was the grandmother of Rui Jufang, and that brought me such immense joy. To think that I still have a grandchild who would remember to perform Chao Du for me—I am so incredibly thankful to you.
Although I have been away from the human world for so long and remained in a state of confusion for so many years—to the point where I cannot remember many things clearly—the fact that you all still hold such filial piety toward me causes a warm current to flow through my heart. I can only hope that you will follow in my footsteps and arrive in this place as soon as possible. Since you already know the Buddha, you certainly have an even better opportunity than I did.
Follow the Buddha diligently, listen to the sutras, and hear the Dharma often. You must change all your bad habits. The words of the Buddha are never wrong. As long as you honestly follow Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, you will certainly be able to reach this place. Everyone must have confidence in themselves. Namo Amituofo."
