A Father's Message from the Western Pure Land
A Letter from Lee Kuan Yew to His Son, Lee Hsien Loong
Recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Shi Faxi
The Exhaustion of Worldly Schemes
My dear son, Hsien Loong, do you realise that here in the of Ultimate Bliss, one is finally free from the need to contemplate the complex schemes and strategies of the human world? Living as a human being in the world is truly exhausting. It is only now, having arrived in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, that I have truly come to understand the depth of this weariness. When I was still involved in politics, I did not feel this weight so profoundly. The environment here in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is truly comfortable, serene, and free from the endless, tangled complexities of the human realm.
I sense that you may not fully grasp the nature of this place yet. If you think of it as a chance to relax, you might be able to understand it. In the human world, you spend every day in a state of constant, frantic activity. When you reach a point where you can no longer carry the burden, how do you decide what to do next?
The Unavoidable Tide of Impermanence
You are well-versed in the concept of destiny, yet the reality of impermanence is something that is incredibly difficult to overcome. I sincerely hope that you can find the time to visit the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. Consider it a holiday, a chance to step away from your duties. Come and observe this pure environment for yourself. You will discover that this is a place where one could reside for a long time. It is truly wonderful, much like the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss itself.
The True Meaning of Achievement
Please, take this opportunity to practise well and learn the true meaning of the Buddha’s teachings. Only then will your life not have been lived in vain. I am fully aware that it was my guidance that led you into the life you are currently living. However, if my words can still help you to awaken, I truly hope you will make this journey to visit us here. As for the matters concerning your siblings, such conflicts are common in the human world. But coming here to purify your own heart and mind is far more important.
It is only now that I truly understand what it means to achieve something. To be able to let go of one's own ego and self-attachment—that is what truly constitutes a genuine achievement. I hope that you can find the faith to believe in all of this.
Namo Amituofo.
