A Journey from the Shadows to Ultimate Bliss

An Interview with the Spirit of Lay Practitioner Huang Qiuhe

Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre3 min read0 views

Lay Practitioner Huang Qiuhe, the paternal great-grandfather of Huang Lianbin and Chen Shujie, sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. Having transitioned from the state of a wandering spirit to rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, his journey is a testament to the power of filial piety and the compassionate guidance of Practitioner Su. This interview was recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe, on December 12, 2025.

Lay Practitioner Huang Qiuhe speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Huang Qiuhe. I am filled with such ! Right now, I am residing in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. It was Practitioner Su who, during the assembly today, reached out and guided us into this magnificent realm.

Everything here is so incredibly bright and beautiful. I never could have imagined such a world existed. My eyes are overwhelmed; there is so much to see that I am loath to even blink for fear of missing a single moment of this splendour. This is a blessing I have cultivated over many lifetimes—to finally arrive at such a place. It is a world apart from the existence I endured before. Who would have thought that after death, there could be such vastly different destinations for a soul?"

A Lifetime of Toil and the Ghostly Aftermath

"I spent my entire life in a state of constant, wearying busyness. When I passed away and became a wandering spirit, I simply assumed that this was the natural order of things. I lived in a state of grey, dim uncertainty, drifting through the shadows. The transition from that bleak existence to being rescued by Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, and brought to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, was a transformation beyond words. The temple itself was already a place of profound peace, but being here in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is beyond anything I could have dreamt of. It feels as though I am ascending, step by step, into a state of ever-increasing perfection.

To be able to enter this realm is a miracle I never dared to hope for. I know deep in my heart that this opportunity was granted to me because my descendants performed the for me. It was their devotion that opened the door to this place."

The Power of Descendants' Devotion

"I laboured and struggled for a lifetime, and when I died, I thought that being a ghost was just my final, mundane fate. I never expected that I would be able to change my path and arrive here in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I believe that perhaps, during my time in the human world, I must have performed at least a few good deeds, which is why my descendants remembered me and sought to help me. But more importantly, they were fortunate enough to encounter Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, which is the only reason they were able to bring me here. My heart is overflowing with gratitude. This is truly the most extraordinary event to have ever happened to me, even after the end of my ordinary life!"

The Profound Peace of Chanting

"While I was at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I had the privilege of listening to Practitioner Su deliver Dharma talks. It was there that I finally began to understand the true nature of the Buddha’s teachings and the profound logic behind them. I realised then that the Buddha’s teachings are so incredibly compassionate; they exist solely to help all beings leave suffering behind. I also heard everyone chanting 'Namo Amituofo,' and I joined in with them. Chanting the Buddha’s name is a wonderful practice. Listening to it, and chanting it myself, brought such a deep, level, and unshakable peace to my heart.

In the past, I had only heard people say that chanting was a good thing, but I never truly understood just how good it could be. Now that I have experienced it for myself, I must tell you all: studying the Buddha’s teachings and chanting Namo Amituofo is truly the most beneficial thing one can do. I sincerely hope that all of you will also take up the study of the Buddha’s teachings and chant with a sincere heart. Only then will you have the opportunity to come to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss in the future.

Thank you, Namo Amituofo. Thank you, Practitioner Su. Thank you to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, and thank you to everyone."
