Awakening the Buddha-Nature Within the Sea of Karma
An Interview with Jeffrey Koo Jr.
Recorded on August 18, 2018, by the chief writer Shi Faxin
Jeffrey Koo Jr. is a prominent individual who sought spiritual deliverance and guidance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This interview, recorded on August 18, 2018, by the chief writer Shi Faxin, documents his profound journey of self-discovery, his experiences with the process of , and his dedication to joining the ranks of saviors to help others.
Jeffrey Koo Jr. speaks:
Every single day, I find myself caught in a delicate balance between moments of genuine clarity and the persistent, heavy fog of confusion. My physical body often operates like a machine, following a rigid, pre-programmed pattern that dictates my daily existence. Yet, in the quiet, fleeting spaces between these mechanical motions, sudden thoughts flash through my mind—my spirit is desperate to break free from the constraints of this life and finally find its true self. I have never been a person who speaks much; most of the time, I simply focus on completing the tasks before me in silence, carrying the weight of my responsibilities without complaint.
A Journey Beyond Time and Space
Through the Causal Conditions of my spirit, I was fortunate enough to find my teacher. My teacher has guided my body and soul to transcend the limitations of time and space. Before my eyes, I no longer see only the mundane, surface-level lives of ordinary people; I have been shown the true, harrowing scenes of the six realms of existence. The suffering endured in the hells is far more terrifying and visceral than anything I could have ever imagined in my wildest dreams. The spirit cannot escape the absolute, unyielding standards of Truth.
I have witnessed faces I recognise and faces I do not, all of them enduring unimaginable agony. The unbearable pain they suffer is entirely of their own making, a direct consequence of their past actions. Truly, there are very few people in this world who walk the path of righteousness, and even fewer who do so without a shred of selfishness. The hells are filled with the manifestations of various habits and the consequences of actions taken in life. So many of our subconscious movements and impulses—actions we take without a second thought—are the very things that bind us to these realms of suffering.
The Path to Deliverance
I, too, was adrift in this vast, turbulent sea of , struggling to stay afloat, until I was finally rescued. My teacher is constantly nurturing the Buddha-nature within my spirit, helping me to see beyond the veil of my own ignorance. By stripping away greed and eliminating desire, my soul has finally come to understand just how profoundly important it is to save the world. While the union between my human body and my soul is not yet fully complete, I am working diligently on the adjustment of my heart and character.
As my connection with the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre grows deeper each day, and as the spiritual network is laid out, I know that every thread connected will eventually find its place. I humbly ask for the compassionate of Namo Amituofo to guide me through this transformation. I am committed to this path, and I pray that my efforts will contribute to the greater good. Namo Amituofo.
