The Turbulence of the Sea of

Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju reminds us that all the fluctuations we experience in our lives arise because our own confusion stirs the vast sea of karma. Once this sea begins to churn, it inevitably leads to a series of complications and setbacks. While we are At Hsiang Kuang: A Sacred Sanctuary, where we have the guidance of the Buddha and the support of Practitioner Su to help us return to a state of stillness, the responsibility for maintaining this peace ultimately rests with us.

The Vital Importance of Purity

In the course of our spiritual practice, purity is of the utmost importance. Whether we are engaged in internal cultivation or navigating the external world, our goal must always be to find our true nature within that state of purity. We must understand that any movement—whether it is the movement of the heart or the movement of karma—is a form of agitation that we must learn to stop. We must not allow ourselves to stir these waters any further.

The Great Affliction of the Practitioner

Mental agitation is the great affliction of the practitioner. It is a significant obstacle that hinders our progress. When we allow our hearts to become restless, we risk violating our . In the teachings of the , even a single mental note can create a negative cause. When this happens, the cycle of karma begins anew, leading to the manifestation of evil consequences and the experience of suffering. It is truly not worth the cost to our spiritual journey.

Cutting Through the Illusions

If you find yourself being led astray by the following, you must be vigilant:

  • Illusory environments:
  • The false appearances of the world that distract us from the truth.Karmic bonds:
  • The deep-seated attachments that keep us tethered to the cycle of rebirth.:
  • The spirits who seek balance for past harms and can influence our mental state.Demon crowds: Negative influences that seek to disrupt our focus and resolve.

When these forces pull at your heart, it becomes difficult to stop the thoughts, and the sea of the heart is stirred once more. This prevents the heart from finding peace and allows karma to continue its cycle. This is not the way of a true practitioner. You must act with speed and determination to cut these ties. Do not look back, do not dwell on your , and do not allow yourself to be moved by these distractions. Instead, focus your energy on diligent practice and the cutting away of all delusions. This is the only path forward.
