Deliverance to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss: Lay Practitioner Wu Lifu
An Interview with the Spirit of Lay Practitioner Wu Lifu
Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on June 6, 2025
This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wu Lifu, the uncle of Lay Practitioner Wu Zhiqiang, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his transition from the cycle of rebirth to the pure realm of Namo Amituofo. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on June 6, 2025.
Lay Practitioner Wu Lifu speaks:
"I truly find it hard to believe—it is almost impossible to comprehend—that I have actually been saved. Not only that, but I have been brought here, to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. It feels like a dream, yet it is more real than anything I ever experienced in the human world.
I know in my heart that it was Practitioner Su who helped me. If I had never been brought to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I would never have known of Practitioner Su. I had no idea that such a compassionate being existed in the human world. The skills that Practitioner Su possesses, which allow her to guide spirits like mine into the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, are beyond my wildest imagination. Even now, as I speak to you, I still find it difficult to fully grasp the magnitude of this miracle."
The Fleeting Nature of Human Existence
"When I look back at the time I spent living in the human world, and compare it to the vast, unending length of the cycle of rebirth, it seems so incredibly short—a mere blink of an eye. During that brief window of time, I did not understand how to cherish my life. I allowed that I had worked so hard to obtain to simply wither away, and then, just like that, my breath ceased, and my life ended.
Before I passed away, I never had the opportunity to learn the . Even if I had been introduced to the teachings of the Buddha back then, I suspect I would have still chosen to live the life I wanted, rather than walking the path of practice. I was stubborn, caught up in the trivialities of the world, and I had no interest in spiritual cultivation."
The Precious Vessel of the Body
"That was my perspective back then, but if I were to hold onto those same thoughts now, I would be truly foolish. Because I no longer have a physical body—I am only this spirit—I have come to realise that without a body, there are so many things I cannot do. I had no power to decide where I would go in the cycle of rebirth; those outcomes were never mine to choose. They were dictated by the Law of Cause, Condition, and Effect.
However, if I still possessed a physical body today, I would do exactly what Practitioner Su advises: I would use this body to engage in practice, and through that, I would help my spirit ascend. This is so incredibly important. The human body is a precious vessel; it is the only tool that can truly assist our spirits in their evolution. I only understand this now, but back then, I was completely ignorant. I believe many people in the human world are just as lost as I was. I suspect my nephew, Wu Zhiqiang, might not fully grasp this either. I hope that as he grows older, he will take the time to chant Namo Amituofo, to keep his heart pure, and to let go of unnecessary thoughts. That is the only way to truly benefit oneself."
The Profound Peace of the Western Land
"I am now residing in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Although I have only just arrived, my heart is already so peaceful, so incredibly calm. It is a stillness so profound that I feel as if I have let go of the 'self' entirely. I can barely feel my own existence because the peace here is so absolute. I love this feeling. It is nothing like the life I lived in the human world, where my heart was constantly rising and falling with every passing emotion. Here, there is none of that. There is only the pure, steady practice of chanting Namo Amituofo.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to my nephew and his wife for not forgetting me, their uncle. I believe this rescue was initiated by my nephew's wife, was it not? If one were to ask whether our karmic connection was deep or shallow, I now know that it must have been incredibly deep for them to have saved my spirit in this way. I am truly grateful.
In closing, I must once again thank Practitioner Su for saving my spirit. I am filled with gratitude. Thank you, thank you.
Namo Amituofo."
