An Interview with the Spirit of Liu Zhao
This is a record of an interview with Liu Zhao, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his experience in the ghost realm and his subsequent deliverance. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on May 29, 2026.
Liu Zhao speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. My name is Liu Zhao, and I have now arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is truly something I never dared to imagine possible in my wildest dreams. This place is so magnificent, so incredibly beautiful—I simply do not have the words to express the depth of my gratitude.
I have been performing prostrations sincerely before the Buddha, pouring out my heart to express my profound appreciation for the grace of the Buddha or who reached out to guide me. If I count the years, it seems I have been away from the human world for over a decade. When I saw that my daughter-in-law, Ruijuan, had registered me for this Assembly, it was as if a lifeline had been thrown to me, pulling me out from the grey, dim existence of the ghost realm. To be perfectly honest, the life I led for those ten-plus years was not a good one. Compared to the human world, it was infinitely more painful.
A Decade Lost in the Shadows
In that place, I had absolutely no freedom. I was a lower-level spirit, unable to move about as freely as some of the other spirits. I was perpetually trapped within a tiny, confined space, living out my days in a world of perpetual gloom and shadow. It was a stagnant existence, devoid of light or hope.
However, during that time, I observed the ghost realm clearly. It is a place inhabited by many different types of spirits, each living their own separate existence. We did not interfere with one another; we simply endured our own individual lives in silence. Having spent over a decade in such a state, I cherish this magnificent opportunity to have arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss more than words can say.
The Truth of the Spirit
Especially since arriving in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I have gradually come to understand many profound truths. In the human world, most people never have the chance to encounter these teachings because they are blinded, living entirely within their own limited . They spend their lives chasing after what they desire, completely unaware that the universe holds such magnificent and absolute truths.
These truths are real; it is simply that many people lack the faith to believe in them. For instance, it was only when I became a spirit that I truly realised that my spirit does not die. It continues to exist in different ways, surviving across various dimensions. Death is merely the shedding of a previous identity, but the spirit itself persists, taking on a new form and continuing its journey.
A New Life in the Western Pure Land
No one in the world can escape the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, unless they can, like Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood. That is a different path entirely—a life of true freedom and ease. I truly admire this, though I also understand that such an achievement requires one's own sincere and diligent practice.
I have the utmost respect for Practitioner Su, and my reverence for Namo Amituofo has grown even deeper. To me, these two are my saviours and my teachers. Since arriving in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, in these few short hours, I have already begun to listen to the Buddha’s lectures. I can now understand everything that happened in my past and what is to come in the future, and I can see the many revelations that the Buddha or Bodhisattva offer to us.
The of Namo Amituofo allows us to possess spiritual powers, enabling us to see the events unfolding in other worlds. So many things fill me with both peace and . Peace is the inherent quality of everyone in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, and I am no exception. My state of mind here is undisturbed; there are no afflictions whatsoever. It is only here that I have realised that this is the natural state of every being, rather than the turbid, confused state we lived in before—constantly worrying, overthinking, and burdened by all sorts of attachments. Looking back now, I finally understand that those were merely the lives of ordinary people.
Now that I have arrived in this place, I wish to learn how to live the life of a Buddha or Bodhisattva. I also hope my children and family members can set their minds at ease. After several weeks of purification in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, my spirit has been greatly elevated, and I am truly a different being than I was before.
I hope my family can feel my current state and understand the beauty of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I believe this is all I need to express. I am filled with gratitude to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su.
Namo Amituofo.
Liu Zhao"
