In the human world, it is often difficult to discern right from wrong. Unless one is a practitioner who has achieved purification of the heart, attained meditative concentration, and is one of those who have realised their true nature, it is nearly impossible to distinguish between the Buddha and the demon.

The Duality of the Heart and Mind

What is the fundamental difference between the Buddha and the demon? It lies in the heart and the intention behind every thought and intention. We can understand these two states through their distinct characteristics:

  • The Buddha:
  • The Buddha sees the Goodness in all, viewing every being as a Buddha. The Buddha acts selflessly for the sake of all beings, never seeking reward or recognition for their service. The Demon: The demon sees only the faults in others. The demon possesses a rigid, stubborn personality. The demon is selfish, acting only for personal gain and always demanding a return for their actions.

Furthermore, the demon may commit evil, planting negative causes in the most subtle of ways. This inevitably leads to evil consequences, and such actions may even cause beings to suffer the retribution of the hells.

The Subtlety of Every Thought and Intention

If your heart is not clear and your eyes are not sharp, it is truly difficult to distinguish between a thought of the Buddha and a thought of the demon. How many kind-hearted people, lacking the guidance of a true spiritual friend, become deeply trapped in this confusion? They struggle to find a way out and remain reincarnated in the cycle of samsara with no end in sight.

You must examine every thought and intention in its most subtle form. Is it of the Buddha or of the demon? Is it rooted in Goodness or in evil? Do not assume that what you think is automatically correct. Often, we start with a biased thought and proceed with biased actions. If the foundation is flawed, how can one walk the Right Way without veering off course?

The Path to

Therefore, it is essential to encounter a true spiritual friend who can guide you to act according to the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Even more precious is to meet one who can subdue demonic enemies and provide the subtle, profound .

When you find such a teacher, you must follow them closely and learn with dedication. Do not retreat, do not harbour doubt, and walk straight upon the Buddha's path. By doing so, you will eventually rediscover your true self.
