From the Cycle of Moths to the Western Pure Land

An Interview with the Spirit of Lay Practitioner Wang Lin

Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre3 min read0 views

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wang Lin, the mother of Lay Practitioner Wang, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition from the cycle of rebirth to the Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxi, on October 7, 2022.

Lay Practitioner Wang Lin speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Wang Lin. Since the moment I passed away, I have been trapped in a state of utter confusion and aimlessness. It was as if I were drifting in a vast, grey fog, unable to grasp anything, unable to understand what was happening in the world I had left behind. I even forgot who I was. I only felt a constant, frantic sensation of flying—I could not stop, I could not rest. I did not even realise that I had been reincarnated as a moth. My existence felt like a constant, turbulent sinking and rising, a cycle of suffering from which I could find no liberation.

If it were not for this act of Chao Du, I would still be lost in that darkness, unable to wake up. This world is truly terrifying! Who would have thought that after a human dies, they could end up as a moth? This is something I never could have imagined in my wildest dreams. In my previous life, I often swatted away mosquitoes or killed moths without a second thought. I never once considered that these tiny creatures might be human beings who had fallen into lower realms. To kill them is, in essence, no different from taking a human life. If people truly understood this, they would be just as shocked and horrified as I am now."

The Terrifying Reality of Samsara

"When I arrived here and encountered Practitioner Su, and after I began listening to the talks, I finally began to wake up. I was shown the truth of my existence throughout my many lives. The cycle of rebirth is so incredibly frightening! I truly do not want to be a human ever again; it is simply too painful. To be born is suffering, and to die is to continue that suffering. In this cycle, human beings have no way to master their own fate. It is absolutely terrifying to think about it—we are just puppets in the hands of our own !

I want to tell my children: Practitioner Su is here at this temple giving Dharma talks, and the principles he teaches are perfectly correct. You must all come and listen. It is not just empty talk; there is real, profound skill and practice here. You must come and learn from them. Looking back at this life from where I stand now, I see that there is nothing in the human world that is truly real. When a person dies, they cannot take a single thing with them. If you are burdened by spiritual obstacles, you will have to face the consequences and pay your debts after death. If not for Practitioner Su saving me today, I do not know where I would have been reborn, or if I would still be trapped in of a moth, unable to find liberation."

A Message to My Children

"I have now reached the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, and I am filled with such . My child, I am so grateful to you for arranging this Chao Du for me. I hope that in the future, all of you will be able to reunite with me here. To be able to walk through this life smoothly is already a rare and difficult achievement, but to be able to truly master your own destiny after death—that is something that can only be found in this place.

You must all come here to practise. This is a true Pure Land where the Buddha resides. My life has finally reached a state of perfection and completion. We were connected by karmic affinity to be a family in this life, and I am so happy for that. I also hope that everyone can eventually perfect their own lives. This place is real, and you must come here to see for yourselves."

The Final Deliverance

"I must be on my way now. I am deeply grateful to Practitioner Su, and I am eternally grateful to Namo Amituofo. Namo Amituofo."

Lay Practitioner Wang Lin, with palms joined in reverence.
