From the Depths of Hell to the Western Pure Land
An Interview with the Spirit of Lay Practitioner Wang Guixiang

This interview was recorded on March 20, 2026, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. The speaker is Lay Practitioner Wang Guixiang, the grandmother of Lay Practitioner Xia Yuyang. After enduring the suffering of the hell realms, she sought deliverance through the compassionate performed at the Centre. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Lay Practitioner Wang Guixiang speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Right now, my surroundings are filled with lotus flowers, and I can truly tell everyone: I have really arrived at the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss! This is absolutely not a fabrication. With the presence of Namo Amituofo and the incredible skills of Practitioner Su, we are all filled with such . In a single instant, the moment Practitioner Su strikes the large chime bowl, we can arrive in this world. I do not even know how far this world is from the where I was previously residing, but distance is simply not an issue here. In the world of spirits, especially in the realm of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, there is no such thing as distance. Only now do I truly understand and realise this reality. I am here, smiling happily, looking at the Buddha, and saying with a joyful heart: I am so deeply grateful to the Buddha, and I am also so deeply grateful to Practitioner Su. Without you, where would our group of beings have ended up? That is something that is impossible to say for sure."
The Reality of
"Of course, my spirit had already been suffering in the hells for quite some time. Like many others, after I passed away, I entered the hell realms. This sounds terrifying, and perhaps it seems incomprehensible to some. But it is not only the most heinous, evil people who end up in hell. When I stood before King Yama, I watched as the memories of my life—the seeds of both good and bad—unfolded before me. Throughout my life, I displayed many personality traits to those around me; whether it was the personality I projected outwardly or the one I hid deep within my heart, none of it could be hidden there. As long as one has a strong ego, negative thoughts, or selfish desires, all these various negative causes can attract immeasurable and boundless from the past to come knocking at your door. I am a perfect example of this."
A Miraculous Turn of Events
"After these beings found me, they presented a list of grievances against me, which led to my arrival before the court of King Yama after my death. King Yama looked at this stack of complaints, and there was nothing I could say to defend myself. I was sent directly to the hells to undergo punishment. The suffering there is beyond words. But the great reversal that occurred—that is what I truly find inconceivable!"
"I had been suffering in the hells for so many years, though I do not even want to think about it anymore. Whether it was fast or slow, the time simply passed so very, very slowly. After my days of suffering finally came to an end, I was led by a ray of light. My name was called, and I was transferred to another world of light. My spirit suddenly became incredibly light. Although the painful memories of the past still existed, they quickly vanished entirely under the purification of the Buddha-light. It was as if my entire soul had been replaced; I floated gently upon a lotus flower in the Western -Nature Land."
The Power of Filial Piety and Chao Du
"Only then did I realise that I had encountered the Buddha. As for why I encountered the Buddha? It was because of my family—my wonderful grandson. I saw his name, and it was written that I was his grandmother. Yes, I remember now. My family performed a Chao Du for me. Because they knew of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, they registered me for this deliverance. My family in the human world did not forget my existence; they remembered to perform this Chao Du for me. I am filled with gratitude, and I send them my heartfelt , hoping they can study the Buddha’s teachings and come to know the true Dharma. That is truly an incomparably fortunate thing. I was even able to benefit from their tremendous blessings. Speaking of their great blessings, this must surely be because I planted such good roots and blessings in the past, which gave me this opportunity. After my time of suffering ended, I was able to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is not something that happens easily."
A Path Forward in the Buddha’s Light
"At this moment, I am filled with a heart of gratitude and peace as I once again express my thanks to Practitioner Su and Namo Amituofo. I will certainly walk my path well from now on, walking on the Buddha’s path, and making my heart as vast as the Buddha’s. This is what I should do in the days to come."
