Rebirth in the Western Pure Land: The Journey of Lay Practitioner Wu Haijian
An Interview with Lay Practitioner Wu Haijian
This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wu Haijian (also known as Wu Qiang), who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey to rebirth and his reflections on the human condition. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on December 12, 2025.
Lay Practitioner Wu Haijian speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Today is the day of my rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, a moment I have been eagerly anticipating for quite some time. First and foremost, I must express my deepest gratitude to Namo Amituofo and to Practitioner Su for their great and their Ultimate Vow. It is only through their boundless mercy that so many of us, who were once wandering spirits, have been granted this precious opportunity to leave suffering behind and gain happiness.
Life is a series of transformations, one after another. It is only because I was able to encounter the Buddha after my passing that such a miraculous turning point became possible. I truly never expected that my wife would possess such incredible fortune. In a country like China, where the Buddha’s teachings have sadly waned and it has become nearly impossible to find the true , she was still able to locate the authentic path. Not only that, but she found it in a temple located in a small, remote corner of Australia. She then secured the deliverance for both her husband and her younger brother. This is all truly miraculous! Thank you, my dear wife; I am filled with such profound gratitude for what you have done for me."
The Miracle of Finding the True Dharma
"I did not spend long in the before I became very clear-minded. I realised that my entire life’s journey was, in essence, a search for the Truth. It is quite ironic that I only encountered it after I had passed away, but as they say, it is never too late. I made the vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss very early on. Because we receive the purification of the Buddha’s teachings and the Buddha-light every single day here, my entire being has been transformed, bit by bit. It is this process that has resulted in the brand-new version of myself that you see today!
My life in the human world ended far too soon, and I did not have the chance to fulfil all the responsibilities I should have carried out. When I was in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, my heart was heavy with a deep sense of guilt. I know that all of you are working so hard, and I know that my wife, Xiaojiao, has had an incredibly difficult path to walk. Watching from here, I look at my family and friends who are still in the world, as well as the many people I do not even know, and I finally understand that everyone is actually living in such great suffering—it is just that not everyone is fully aware of it yet."
The Burden of the Human Realm
"Every single person’s face is veiled by a layer of grey shadow, and they are unable to open their hearts to live a truly authentic life. There is always something that does not go as planned, or perhaps there are burdens that one must swallow and carry alone. Think about it—it is truly like this. A human body is so difficult to obtain, yet if one does not encounter the Buddha’s teachings, it is truly difficult to find a way out of that cycle of suffering.
The beauty of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is something that is truly difficult to describe in words. I have only just arrived here, and I am still completely immersed in the Buddha’s compassion. At the very beginning, I did nothing but make prostrations to the Buddha, over and over again. It felt as if I had returned to a long-lost hometown from ages ago. My heart was overflowing with Dharma- and a profound desire to learn from Namo Amituofo, which allowed my entire being to instantly reach a higher level of existence."
The Beauty of the Western Pure Land
"In the world of the Buddha, we can be purified very rapidly. It is not like the pollution we experience as humans on Earth; it is an entirely different world. One day, you will all be able to experience this for yourselves. You must truly, honestly believe in the Buddha and study the Buddha’s teachings; only then will your life become truly different. The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is so beautiful—it is even more magnificent and vast than the Western Dharma-Nature Land, which was already beautiful in its own right! I truly hope that you can all come over here to see it for yourselves soon! However, do not waste this precious human body. If you practise well before you arrive here, you will find that your experience will be even more extraordinary!
Namo Amituofo."
