The Weight of Sacred Responsibility

Namo Amituofo. I am Venerable Chuan Wen. I once served as the abbot of Miaotong Temple in Liugui, Kaohsiung. This was the very place my teacher, the Venerable Master Guang Qin, instructed me to go. Many locals in Liugui know this place well; it is a bustling temple where we held New Year and various assemblies, bringing to many devotees who visited us.

As an abbot, my decisions shaped the direction of the temple and influenced the lives of many. I maintained good relationships with our volunteers and devotees. However, as the temple grew busier and donations increased, new challenges emerged. A Dharma assembly requires the lead practitioner to have the genuine ability to perform , to truly save the deceased and guide them to the of Ultimate Bliss. This is a profound responsibility that demands real skill. I failed to achieve this level of practice, and in doing so, I betrayed the trust of the devotees and my fellow monastics.

A Lesson from the Depths of Suffering

Once a Dharma assembly begins, it is difficult to stop, but I made a grave mistake: I allowed people to believe I was a Buddha incarnate. This was a terrible sin. After I passed away, I fell into the hells to suffer retribution. I am deeply ashamed to have failed the teachings of my teacher, Master Guang Qin. Fortunately, my teacher invited Practitioner Su from the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre to rescue me from the hells. I was brought to the Buddha-land to listen to the Dharma and repent. Through the , I was finally guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This story may be difficult for some to believe, but it is the truth. I must openly repent to make amends for the sins I have committed.

A Solemn Warning to All Practitioners

I urge those who lead Dharma assemblies to be cautious. When you accept offerings from devotees, you must possess the genuine skill to perform Chao Du. You must be able to guide the deceased to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Even if their karmic roots differ, you should at least guide them to the human or heavenly realms. This is the only way to honour the trust placed in you. If the deceased remain trapped in space, within the temple, or at the site of their passing, the ceremony is merely a ritual. The lead practitioner will bear the karmic consequences. Your body will grow heavier, and eventually, you will be pursued by the beings you failed to save, leading to severe illness and retribution in the hells. There is a saying: "Many monks and Taoists stand before the gates of hell." I was one of them. I hope my experience serves as a warning, especially to monastics and abbots. One must be extremely careful.

The True Power of Chao Du

Practitioner Su possesses the genuine skill to guide the deceased to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Many who have been saved by Practitioner Su can testify to this. I invite you to visit the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia to witness what true Chao Du looks like. The Centre can receive messages from the West; this is real. Just as I am now transmitting this message from the Western Pure Land, the Centre has the ability to transcribe these messages into text.

Building the Amituofo Village

Today, the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, following the vows of Namo Amituofo, has established a skillful means to help more beings reach the Western Pure Land. We hope to unite everyone's vows to build the Amituofo Village on the grounds of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Those who live there can:

  • Engage in group cultivation close to the Buddha's presence.
  • Participate in regular Dharma assemblies to purify their body, mind, and spirit.
  • Receive the guidance of Practitioner Su to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

This is a rare opportunity that you must seize. I hope you will all join this noble cause, receive the benefits of the Dharma, and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Namo Amituofo.
