The Asura Realm's Path to Enlightenment

This is a record of an interview with Venerable Nansheng, who represented over 8.4 billion beings from the Asura realm seeking Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. This account details their transformation from beings of conflict to aspirants for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Recorded by the chief writer on May 7, 2014.

Venerable Nansheng speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Venerable Nansheng. I am here representing the ninety-six million, nine hundred and eighty-one thousand, six hundred and seventy-four beings from the Asura realm who wish to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss."

Practitioner Su: "Venerable Nansheng, you say you were my student in the past?"

Venerable Nansheng: "That is right, Master! I am your student."

Practitioner Su: "How long have you been in the Asura realm?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I am a newcomer, really. Only about fifteen hundred years or so."

The Nature of the Asura Realm

Practitioner Su: "What do you actually do in the Asura realm?"

Venerable Nansheng: "We spend our time looking for trouble. We find fault with everything."

Practitioner Su: "Looking for trouble? You must realise that there are laws of karma and cause and effect for such actions! Have you ever looked at the hells that await those in the Asura realm?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Why on earth would I want to look at that?"

Practitioner Su: "It is precisely because you refuse to be taught that you ended up in the Asura realm. If you do not look, if you do not face reality, you will never change! Look at his face, everyone—how unpleasant it looks. That is the classic Asura expression! It is quite different from a peaceful face. Everyone, take a look."

Venerable Nansheng: "You all seem to love watching, don't you!"

The Illusion of Freedom

Practitioner Su: "What is your life like in the Asura realm?"

Venerable Nansheng: "We find joy in causing trouble for others."

Practitioner Su: "And what do you eat?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Whatever we feel like eating, we eat."

Practitioner Su: "Do you not understand how terrifying the cycle of rebirth is? Do you have no fear at all? You just go your own way, regardless of the consequences."

Venerable Nansheng: "Well, that is just how life is. Everyone lives like that, so I just live like them. Coming here, I am just living the same way."

Practitioner Su: "You must never be like our Practitioner A-Tao, who is always so agreeable. You need to learn to be better."

Venerable Nansheng: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do. There is nothing to learn or not learn; it is just the way it is."

A Debt of Gratitude and the Path to Deliverance

Practitioner Su: "You! I asked you to look at the hells today. Did you see them?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Why would I look?"

Practitioner Su: "If you do not look at the hells, you are afraid to face the truth of your existence."

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh! I would rather look at things that make me happy. Why would I look at things that make me unhappy?"

Practitioner Su: "But your happiness is built upon the suffering of others! That is not right."

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh, I am just a small fry compared to the others."

Practitioner Su: "You are a practitioner! You should be changing your personality, teaching others to cultivate virtue, and guiding them toward rebirth in the Western Pure Land. And you dare to call yourself a 'small fry'?"

Venerable Nansheng: "My name is 'Nan-Sheng', Master!"

Practitioner Su: "Difficult to be born? Did I give you that name?"

Venerable Nansheng: "If you didn't give it to me, who did?"

Practitioner Su: "Then I shall remove the 'Difficult' part!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Well, help me change it then and see what happens."

Practitioner Su: "Very well! I shall change it to 'Shi Sheng-Sheng'."

Venerable Nansheng: "Why give me two 'Sheng's'? 'Difficult to be born' has now become 'Born-Born'."

The Leader's Confession

Practitioner Su: "You know you need Chao Du, and you know you need to go to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Why is your personality so rotten? Why are you so unteachable?"

Venerable Nansheng: "How would I know? I thought I was quite decent back then! Everyone loved me."

Practitioner Su: "Now you have become someone everyone dislikes."

Venerable Nansheng: "Well, they don't know it is me doing these things anyway."

Practitioner Su: "You cannot say that. Every single action has its karmic retribution! It is absolutely terrifying! How can you dare to do such things?"

Venerable Nansheng: "As long as I don't think about it, it doesn't matter."

Practitioner Su: "You are just like the Arhats who refuse to face reality. They only look at the good and ignore the bad."

Venerable Nansheng: "But the Arhats are not as carefree and unrestrained as I am. I do whatever I want."

The Transformation of the Asuras

Practitioner Su: "Whatever you want to do, there is always cause and effect! I have visited the twenty-eight levels of heaven. The good go up, the ordinary stay in the middle, and those who are not good go down. It is all governed by the mind. Do you still dare to act this way? Do you think the universe cannot hold you accountable?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I wouldn't dare say that!"

Practitioner Su: "Have you ever seen an Asura fall?"

Venerable Nansheng: "If they fall, let them fall. When the time comes, they should fall."

Practitioner Su: "Where do they fall to?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh! I don't want to look. I don't want to think about it."

Practitioner Su: "You must look! If you do not look, I will not allow you to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss today."

Venerable Nansheng: "Do you know why I am shaking my head?"

Practitioner Su: "Why?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Because I know this young lady's bones are very sore, so I am helping her move around to make her feel more comfortable."

Practitioner Su: "Oh! And why are her bones so sore?"

Venerable Nansheng: "You should ask her. I am just helping her move!"

Practitioner Su: "That is true! I should ask you, because you are smarter than her!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Hey! That is actually true. Master, you make a good point."

Practitioner Su: "Why does she look so heavy today? Is there a lot of interference from spirits?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh! She is such an important person, how could the spirits let her have an easy time?"

Practitioner Su: "What do you mean by that? Is she not allowed to save the world?"

Venerable Nansheng: "It is not that she isn't allowed. Is she not sitting right here?"

Practitioner Su: "That is right! Now, who is making it difficult for her? Bring them out, and I will send them to the North Pole!"

Venerable Nansheng: "I am doing a good deed! I am helping her adjust!"

Practitioner Su: "I see. Is your adjustment effective?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Hmm, it seems to be working a little bit."

Practitioner Su: "Where are you from?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Wherever you are from, Master, that is where I am from."

Practitioner Su: "I am from Taipei, Taiwan."

Venerable Nansheng: "Then I shall be from Taipei, Taiwan, too!"

Practitioner Su: "You must tell the truth about where you are from."

Venerable Nansheng: "I am sorry! I am still as mischievous as I used to be."

Practitioner Su: "Indeed! You have no respect at all. Where are you really from?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Alright, I have finished adjusting her. Let us get back to the point. Master, do you remember how big our temple was?"

Practitioner Su: "I want to see if you remember, not if I have forgotten. Tell me."

Venerable Nansheng: "It is very famous in mainland China! It is so big, so big!"

Practitioner Su: "Tell me, how big is it?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Does anyone know?"

Assembly: "Ci'en Temple?"

Venerable Nansheng: "That is right! Besides Ci'en Temple, where else could it be? It is huge and very famous."

Practitioner Su: "Did you become a monk when you were young or when you were old?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I became a monk when I was young, which is why I am so mischievous. So, I do have true attainment; do not underestimate me just because I like to play around."

Practitioner Su: "Your attainment is in causing trouble? That is not saving the world!"

Venerable Nansheng: "I may cause trouble, but I am actually quite compassionate."

Practitioner Su: "Do you practise Meditation?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Yes! Master, your meditative concentration is incredible! Naturally, the student you taught cannot have poor meditative concentration!"

Practitioner Su: "Your meditative concentration is good now, so you should do good deeds. I am doing good deeds, and it is not acceptable for you to be doing bad deeds. You must serve your teacher and listen to what I say."

Venerable Nansheng: "That is why I came here to follow you! Look, I am even the representative today!"

Practitioner Su: "You are the representative because I called you out."

Venerable Nansheng: "I have actually been quite good to Practitioner Jiang! I am not always like this; I have a fierce side, too!"

Practitioner Jiang: "You have been good to me!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Don't you think so? Did the previous Asuras treat you like this?"

Practitioner Jiang: "You have been good to me, that is true!"

Practitioner Su: "Why is Practitioner Jiang often controlled by others?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Can she withstand the pressure?"

Practitioner Su: "Can she? Yes or no?"

Practitioner Jiang: "Me? I am not sure!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh! Face it! Didn't Master just say we need to face reality?"

Practitioner Jiang: "Alright! I will face it!"

Practitioner Su: "Are you two fellow students?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I would not want to be his fellow student! He is much more powerful than I am. I am not powerful; I am just a small fry, and he is a big shot."

Practitioner Jiang: "I am a big-shot Asura, am I?"

Venerable Nansheng: "When he gets fierce, he is very fierce. When I get fierce, I am not that fierce, so I stay a small fry. We are not as fierce as he is."

Practitioner Su: "Has he created a lot of karma by being fierce?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Of course he has! I am a bit more timid, so I stay a small fry."

Practitioner Su: "Is he bold enough to be a human?"

Venerable Nansheng: "He comes to be a big shot."

Practitioner Su: "Does he have tremendous blessings?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I suppose so, otherwise how could he stay in this place? This place is not somewhere an ordinary person can stay, and he can even sit there! We have all seen him."

Practitioner Su: "You are not very enthusiastic about seeking rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and I am very dissatisfied! Others have billions, and you only have tens of millions. How do you explain this?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, we are very difficult to teach. Our personalities are not easy to change!"

Practitioner Su: "Does that mean you prefer the cycle of rebirth?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Everyone just wants to live well in the present. Otherwise, why would we become Asuras? If we knew about the cycle of rebirth, we would not dare to be Asuras! But we only look at what is in front of us, and life is not bad."

Practitioner Su: "I opened the hells for you to see, and you still dare not look!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Those who want to look can look; those who do not want to can choose not to. Not everyone has to look!"

Practitioner Su: "You are truly unteachable! You cannot be like this; you must face reality!"

Venerable Nansheng: "But I am already here!"

Practitioner Su: "Being here does not mean you will make it up there! Without respect, without repentance, and without knowing how to change, it is still a question."

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, then you must give me a helping hand."

Practitioner Su: "Helping you is no problem, but you must be obedient. You must have the vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Do you know that I have been mocked by others for coming here?"

Practitioner Su: "What are they mocking? They are mocking your intelligence."

Venerable Nansheng: "They ask why I am so timid and why I am hiding here!"

Practitioner Su: "Oh! You are here to learn true skills! These people are the ones who are timid; they dare not face me, right? I am scolding them for being timid. I can lead you to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss to see Namo Amituofo. Who else can do that?"

Venerable Nansheng: "That is true, so Master, you must push me up there."

Practitioner Su: "No problem, as long as you listen to me."

Venerable Nansheng: "I do not want to go back and be mocked again. It is very embarrassing!"

Practitioner Su: "It is indeed embarrassing! I do not know how you ended up in such a mess. You look terrible, yet you think you are so great. That fierce look with your face all twisted is very ugly."

Venerable Nansheng: "I am not fierce when I am here."

Practitioner Su: "Then let me ask you, who is currently in Practitioner Jiang's body? Speak!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Hmm, let him say it himself. He is a bigger shot than I am; I dare not speak."

Practitioner Su: "It is fine if you speak. He cannot be the master right now."

Venerable Nansheng: "Do you think you are fine just because you are like this? Let me tell you, you still have demon nature in you, so you must learn to adjust your heart!"

Practitioner Jiang: "That is right! Adjust the heart."

Venerable Nansheng: "I would not dare to compare myself to him. I naturally stay a bit further away and show him some respect! That is why I was only playing a small prank on him earlier!"

Practitioner Su: "Is the person inside him a demon? How many thousands of years?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Hmm, Master, you should invite him out and let him speak for himself. Otherwise, if he goes to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss and finds fault with me, what should I do?"

Practitioner Su: "Do not be afraid, I am your backing. Have you not heard? The demon realm! There are so many demon children and grandchildren in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss who are my students! You are still in Practitioner Jiang's body today; are you not afraid of death?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I will tell you a secret! The demon in him is already much better. Originally, his demon was not like this."

Practitioner Su: "What was it like?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Look at how he comes out, and you will see!"

Practitioner Su: "Why is he in a deep sleep now?"

Venerable Nansheng: "You must face it! Do you think you are fine just because you talk to Master like this? Let me tell you, you still have many problems. Actually, the demon is self-invited."

Big-Shot Asura: "Am I facing it now?"

Practitioner Su: "You are facing it, but why are you so rude? I want to save you people from the Asura realm today, but if none of you listen, how can I do it? There are only ninety million of you here."

Big-Shot Asura: "We are listening! Of course we are listening."

Practitioner Su: "You must listen! You cannot ignore this. Why are you always attaching yourself to people's bodies?"

Big-Shot Asura: "We are listening!"

Practitioner Su: "Is your only pastime there to fight with others? Do you just watch us ordinary people and then come down? Is that it? Or do you fight in the heavens?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, are you asking me or him?"

Practitioner Su: "I am asking you, of course! He is sleeping."

Venerable Nansheng: "May I speak?"

Practitioner Su: "Yes, speak quickly."

Venerable Nansheng: "I will tell you! We do not just fight with people! We fight with anything we find unpleasant. We fight with anything we dislike! Look at this spear in my hand; if I see something I don't like, I wave it around and swing it everywhere."

Practitioner Su: "Waving and swinging it everywhere—you must understand that if you do not change your personality, the Avici Hell is waiting for you! It will manifest right before your eyes! You cannot afford to be even slightly off-track. After visiting the twenty-eight levels of heaven, it was terrifying! If you do not turn back now, you will be in great trouble."

Venerable Nansheng: "Also, those celestial beings in the twenty-eight levels of heaven actually have bad moments, too. The only difference is that they can suppress the bad."

Practitioner Su: "What is the bad? The seven emotions and five desires?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Of course! The deeper their meditative concentration, the deeper they can suppress it. But when they go through the cycle of rebirth, depending on which realm they go to, if they have not learned true skills, the evil will manifest as usual, and they will not even be able to reach the heavenly realm."

Practitioner Su: "Oh! That is the key point. If they come down and are not careful, they will still have evil thoughts and will end up in the three evil realms. So, it is impossible for them to be reborn into wealthy families. Therefore, you must cherish everything while enjoying blessings in the heavens. Now that there is the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, everyone should be enthusiastic. You have guided them well today."

Venerable Nansheng: "Also, may I say one more thing? Although I am sometimes mischievous and have a bad temper, I also have a kind and lovely side."

Practitioner Su: "Tell me about it."

Venerable Nansheng: "Sometimes when I see people who are quite pitiful, I have a compassionate side, too! I try to find ways to give them some benefits."

Practitioner Su: "Benefits? Have you broken any rules? Have you broken the heavenly laws?"

Venerable Nansheng: "If we break the heavenly laws, we get punished! In our heavenly laws, there are things you can do and things you cannot do. So, I give them some benefits, and they become very happy, and I become very happy. Would you not say that is my compassion?"

Practitioner Su: "What are the benefits? Tell me."

Venerable Nansheng: "We give people happiness and joy, but we do not give too much."

Practitioner Su: "Are you playing pranks on them? Where do you give these benefits?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I have my own ways of giving."

Practitioner Su: "Speak clearly, I do not understand."

Venerable Nansheng: "Alright! I will give him a woman, but he cannot have her."

Practitioner Su: "That is quite profound. What does that mean?"

Venerable Nansheng: "This woman will stir up his seven emotions and five desires, but he cannot get her, so he will suffer, but he will not have any physical contact with her."

Practitioner Su: "Let us get back to the point. If you are not enthusiastic now, you will regret it. If there were no Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, there would be no one to lead you to rebirth. So, all of you must go. Do you have any words of guidance for the people of the world? Otherwise, how can you attain the fruit of enlightenment? You must guide them toward good deeds. Come, tell me."

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh! It is inevitable for people in the world to commit evil, just as we commit evil! But turning back is the shore. Just like me, I have come to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, hoping Master will lead me to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is such a simple truth, but it is not so easy to put into practice!"

Practitioner Su: "How did you end up in the Asura realm? At what age? Is it because you like to get angry?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I do not get angry. Actually, I am quite happy, but sometimes I like to play pranks, and I feel happy, but my pranks bring bad feelings to others. However, I also often help people, so I still have good thoughts and good intentions, which is why I did not fall into the three evil realms."

Practitioner Su: "How did you pass away in the human world?"

Venerable Nansheng: "It is a case of 'birds of a feather flock together.' When I was about to leave, I was not really sick."

Practitioner Su: "Were you sick? Did you pass away while meditating?"

Venerable Nansheng: "No. I could not even meditate peacefully. Usually, my meditative concentration was quite good, but that day, no matter how I sat, I could not sit still. So, I went outside the temple to walk around and clear my mind. I did not know there was a big hole, and I fell in. Who was it? Someone dug a big hole, and I fell in. But after I fell in, someone with great strength pulled me up."

Practitioner Su: "Oh! Someone pulled you up. Who was it?"

Venerable Nansheng: "It was my companion."

Practitioner Su: "Are you close to your companion?"

Venerable Nansheng: "I did not know him at the time. I saw that he was similar to me, and we were probably 'birds of a feather,' so I went with him, and he brought me here."

Practitioner Su: "You died when you fell in, and your spirit was captured by him. Because you had the Asura cause, you went to the Asura realm, and you have been an Asura for over a thousand years. What are your reflections after a thousand years? These books will be passed down for ten thousand generations to save people. You are my student, so I am speaking to you out of kindness: you must guide others and accumulate merits to be saved."

Venerable Nansheng: "We often hear the Hsiang Kuang Centre broadcasting 'Namo Amituofo'—Master, I am telling you, some of us cover our ears and refuse to listen! Not everyone wants to listen."

Practitioner Su: "Why do they not listen? Your spiritual obstacles are very heavy!"

Venerable Nansheng: "They do not want to listen; they call it 'demon sounds piercing the brain.'"

Practitioner Su: "Oh! That means your spiritual obstacles are very heavy! If you do not want to hear the Buddha-name, it will be difficult for you to be reborn."

Venerable Nansheng: "But I listen! I listen and feel it is quite good, and I listen every day."

Practitioner Su: "Do you listen to my lectures every day?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, I dare not listen openly. I hide in the back to listen."

Practitioner Su: "Why do you hide in the back?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Because I said earlier, I get mocked by them! I do not have the courage, so I hide and listen. Some others hide and listen just like me."

Practitioner Su: "Why hide?"

Venerable Nansheng: "We will be mocked by the big shots."

Practitioner Su: "The big shot has his eyes closed now."

Big-Shot Asura: "The big shot is now a small fry."

Venerable Nansheng: "So I, the small fry, have become a big shot!"

Practitioner Su: "Look at how arrogant you are over there, and you do not change your personality. You have great blessings in the Asura realm, but when you come down, you will go to the Avici Hell. That is what I heard from my teacher. The Asura realm is full of fighting, and when you die, you will go to hell! Did the people above hear that?"

Venerable Nansheng: "They do not like to hear that. They do not want to! They ignore it, they ignore it."

Practitioner Su: "If you ignore it, I want to save you, but if you do not listen, I cannot save you."

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, you must save us!"

Practitioner Su: "But they do not come out."

Venerable Nansheng: "But we have come out! If you do not save us, what will happen?"

Practitioner Su: "I will save you. You must say a few words to guide the people of the world, and I will send you to the lotus seat. You must know that being an Asura is not the ultimate goal."

Venerable Nansheng: "I will tell you, if you hear the Buddha-name of Namo Amituofo, I will tell you a secret: you must chant along! You will find that you are not so mischievous anymore, and you will prefer to listen to the sutras and hear the Dharma. I think I have found a bit of my past self. Because in that environment, it is really hard not to be like them. Is the current social environment not like that? Master once said, 'Those who stay near vermilion get stained red; those who stay near ink get stained black.' So, although we get mocked, we are still brave enough to hide behind the trees and listen secretly. It is still useful. Look, have I not arrived here now?"

Practitioner Su: "Do you live together, or does everyone have their own place?"

Venerable Nansheng: "Oh! Living together is too much trouble!"

Practitioner Su: "Can you hide and manifest at will?"

Venerable Nansheng: "As long as we follow the rules, when they call us, we arrive at once, and that is how we gather together."

Practitioner Su: "Everyone hides in something like a mountain, and when everyone 'whoos' and gathers, you go in; when you want to, you come out. Is that it?"

Venerable Nansheng: "We can prepare for battle at any time."

Practitioner Su: "Prepare for battle? Who are you fighting with?"

Venerable Nansheng: "We have a leader."

Practitioner Su: "Who is the leader? Call him out!"

Venerable Nansheng: "You call him! He is not here."

Practitioner Su: "Leader, come out! Leader of the Asura realm, if you do not come out, you will regret it later. My Buddha is compassionate and wants to save you, yet you still do not come out! I do not know about that leader! If he sees the hells, he will be scared to death!"

Venerable Nansheng: "He also has a little bit of skill."

Practitioner Su: "Everyone has skills! Does he have the skills of my Buddha, Namo Amituofo? The Buddha is the Universal Buddha; does he have the skills of Namo Amituofo? What do you think? You want to come, but did the leader say anything? You still talk about the leader! Leaders should listen to orders; you do not listen to his words, so how is he a leader?"

Venerable Nansheng: "We want to come, and he cannot stop us, because we have been taught by you; so I listen to you. Those who do not listen to your teachings, of course, do not listen to him."

Practitioner Jiang: "The leader says, 'Those who are timid, run quickly!'"

Leader: "Those who are timid, run quickly! Those who are timid, run quickly!"

Practitioner Su: "Those who are timid have blessings!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Master is speaking for us. Master, you must say a few more words."

Practitioner Su: "Those who are timid have blessings. The truly timid ones are the cowards in your Asura realm who have not gone to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss."

Venerable Nansheng: "That is right, Master, I am hiding behind you. Master, you must say a few more words."

Practitioner Su: "Just stand next to me."

Leader: "Those who are timid, run quickly!"

Practitioner Su: "You are the one who is timid."

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, he sounds very weak and powerless. He is not usually like this."

Practitioner Su: "He usually speaks like a lion's roar, but now he has no energy."

Leader: "Because I am more timid than he is. I pretend to be strong on the outside, but inside, I am timid, timid, timid!"

Venerable Nansheng: "Big shot, so I was deceived by you. I was deceived by you."

Practitioner Su: "Do you want to go to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss or not? Join us now!"

Leader: "We are going! Why wouldn't we! Those who are timid, get out here!"

Practitioner Su: "There are enough positions. I will give you immeasurable and boundless positions, which are the lotus seats. Those who want to go to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, please step onto the lotus seats."

Venerable Nansheng: "I have never seen him like this; it is very entertaining! Hahaha! Let me watch a few more times, hahaha!"

Practitioner Su: "The leaders have come out, and the others must come out, too."

Leader: "I have hidden until there is nowhere left to hide. I have hidden until there is nowhere left to hide."

Venerable Nansheng: "Now look at me, I am sitting properly, I do not need to hide. Hahaha!"

Practitioner Su: "Now you do not need to hide. Your leader has hidden, so you come out! I, Practitioner Su, will take you all in. How many? Rewrite the number."

Practitioner Su: "What bald! You want long hair, it will grow immediately. Look at yourselves now, the Asuras above, the world's models are not as beautiful as them, their skin is white and tender, their eyes are big, and their lips are red. Do you want to come again? Hurry up."

Venerable Nansheng: "Master, you are too tired, that is enough!"

Practitioner Su: "I am not tired, for your sake, it does not matter if Master is a little tired. I have changed you all! Wow! Everyone is dressed in suits! Do you want to change your clothes, I will change them immediately?"

Demon-Anger-Timid: "Change to the same as what you are wearing."

Practitioner Su: "White, alright! Everyone white! Wow! It is incredibly dignified! Do you want more? No more! No more, then it is over!"

Demon-Anger-Timid: "He says: 'Let us go first and then see.'"

Practitioner Su: "Alright! Please step onto the lotus seats. Eight billion, forty-one million, three hundred and twenty-five thousand, two hundred and twenty-five Asuras, representatives: Venerable Nansheng, Demon-Anger-Timid. Namo Amituofo."

Demon-Anger-Timid: "Namo Amituofo."

Venerable Nansheng: "Namo Amituofo."

Note: Sentient beings should be saved in whatever form is appropriate, and the Buddhas and Tathagatas will manifest in that form. Those who learn Buddhism should make a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree turn. Whether others turn or not, there is no need to ask; I must be able to turn myself, to save myself and save others. I turn, and I have achieved; when they see me achieve, they will be moved, and they will also learn to turn. Therefore, self-cultivation is saving others. We see that 'the arrangement of the Dharma does not hinder the perfect fusion, and the perfect fusion does not hinder the arrangement of the Dharma.' The arrangement of the Dharma is of many kinds, very complex, and thousands of differences; perfect fusion is non-duality. The phenomena are thousands of differences, but the nature and principle are the same, so they can be perfectly fused. In the Mahayana teachings, 'there is only the One Vehicle Dharma, no two and no three.' Therefore, the ancestral masters and venerable masters often speak of one vehicle, one flavour, one principle, and the Pure Land school speaks of one heart, one Dharma realm, so how can there be no perfect fusion?
