The Burden of Past Emotions
An Interview with the Karmic Spirits of Venerable HaiZe
Recorded on May 14, 2017

The Hidden Echoes of the Past
On the fourteenth of May, 2017, Venerable Fa Xi conducted a spiritual inquiry. As he felt a sensation as if the scalp of Venerable HaiZe were being firmly grasped, he asked the presence to reveal its nature. The entity responded, identifying itself as a multitude of tiny, red cells residing upon The Head of Venerable HaiZe. They described themselves as being packed together, layer upon layer, in a dense and restless formation.
When asked if the same condition existed upon the facial area, the spirits explained that the nature of their manifestation varies according to the specific part of they inhabit. They clarified that they were a group of small cells emerging from The Head, and they were deeply unhappy. Their vibrant red colour was a reflection of their inner turmoil and heat, a state that caused them to feel rejected and misunderstood.
The Pain of Unresolved Emotions
These spirits shared the heavy burden of their existence, explaining that they were not born to be this way. They felt they were victims of their own past, specifically harmed by the weight of emotion. Whenever any fluctuation related to human emotion arose, they would flare up, turning red and burning with heat. They expressed a deep sense of melancholy and frustration, noting that they were not only disliked by others but also deeply dissatisfied with their own state.
They revealed a startling truth about their origins:
- They were once beautiful, elegant women living within the imperial palace. They were a group of palace consorts who took great pride in their appearance and adornments. They were deeply affected by the care and grooming of the physical form, as it reminded them of their former desire to be beautiful. Many of them had been cast into the cold palace, abandoned and forgotten.
Having lost their former beauty and status, they were left with nothing but deep, unhealed scars. They confessed that they were filled with resentment. Whenever a memory of their past life surfaced, they would fall back into a state of hatred, feeling stifled and profoundly unfair. They questioned why, after all their efforts and sacrifices, they had ended up in such a tragic and desolate state.
The Wisdom of Namo Amituofo
In response to this outpouring of suffering, Namo Amituofo provided a profound teaching to guide these beings toward liberation:
Words of Namo Amituofo: Do not discuss whether one has done much or little in this life, for to speak of it is to enter the realm of emptiness.
Namo Amituofo's discourse:
Throughout your journey, you have been driven by emotion; now, you must let go of that emotion. If you have spent an entire lifetime consumed by , why would you wish to continue in that same cycle?
Venerable Fa Xi asked if this teaching was sufficient for the spirits to find peace. Namo Amituofo's discourse indicated that this was indeed enough, and that the remainder of their journey must be completed through their own self-reflection and inner . The spirits then identified themselves as representing the presence of Miao Kean. This record of the encounter was written by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable Fa Xi.
