The Deliverance of Lay Practitioner Xiao Fengying
An Interview with the Late Lay Practitioner Xiao Fengying
Recorded at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This is a record of an interview with Xiao Fengying, the mother of Lay Practitioner Xing Xifen, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her life and her transition from the cycle of rebirth. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on May 30, 2025.
Lay Practitioner Xiao Fengying speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am finally liberated. I am truly, truly liberated. My heart is filled with such profound gratitude to Practitioner Su for guiding me to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I know now that I have been saved, and I no longer have to wander through the endless cycle of rebirth. My heart is overflowing with and a sense of relief that I cannot even begin to describe. It is a feeling of coming home after a very long and weary journey."
A Life of Simple Devotion
"In this lifetime, I was born as a human, and I lived my entire life as a simple, honest person. After I married, my world revolved entirely around my husband and my children. I never harboured any greed or desire for fame or fortune; my only wish, my only prayer, was that my entire family could live in peace and remain healthy. That was enough for me.
I believe many women of my generation shared this exact sentiment. We were so simple, so unpretentious. We did not dare to ask for much from life. We only hoped that our families could pass each day in safety and harmony. To us, that was the very definition of happiness. It was a quiet, humble existence, but it was the life I knew, and I cherished it deeply.
Life is truly filled with suffering. I have walked that path, and I know it intimately. It is a long, winding road of trials and tribulations that everyone must face, whether they are prepared for it or not."
The Final Transition
"I still remember the moments before my final breath. As my life began to fade, a multitude of images appeared before my mind's eye. Some were memories of things that had actually happened in my life, while others were scenes that felt entirely unfamiliar, as if they belonged to another time or place. I watched them all unfold, one by one, just like watching a television screen. It was as if my entire existence was being replayed for me to witness.
At that time, I was fully aware that my life was coming to an end. I knew that the time had come for me to depart. In truth, I did not feel a strong attachment to this world. I understood clearly that everyone must face the day of their passing. Given my age, I knew my time was near, so I did not feel an overwhelming sense of fear. The only thing that truly weighed on my heart was the sorrow of leaving my family behind. That was the only thing I could not easily let go of."
The Grey Loneliness of the Underworld
"After I passed away and entered the underworld, I found myself with nothing to do. My appearance remained much the same as it was when I was alive; it seemed as though nothing had changed at all. However, in the underworld, I had to live entirely on my own. I no longer had the companionship of my loved ones from the human world. I spent my days in a state of solitude, living through a grey, dim, and monotonous existence. It was a lonely, hollow feeling that is difficult to put into words.
But then, everything changed. After I was saved by Practitioner Su, the Buddha-light began to shine upon me constantly. I felt myself transforming, becoming something entirely different. I began to listen very earnestly to the talks given by Practitioner Su. Often, as I listened, I would find myself weeping. It was then that I truly understood how painful the cycle of rebirth is and how fortunate I was to have been rescued from it."
to the Light of Namo Amituofo
"This time, I made a firm resolution to go to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. My husband from this life is also following this path. Although we are now independent spirits and no longer have the same ties we once did, we both understand that in this lifetime, we were husband and wife—a connection formed by Causal Conditions that lasted for one life.
Now, all of that has come to an end. I follow the Buddha, kneeling before Him, and my heart is filled with immense gratitude. I am grateful to Namo Amituofo, I am grateful to Practitioner Su, I am grateful to my children who helped me, and I am grateful to everyone who supported me on this journey. Namo Amituofo."
Xiao Fengying bows in reverence.
