The Demon of Hidden Resentment
An Interview with the Spirit of Nu Yin (Dharma Name: Shi Jingjing)
Recorded on March 20, 2020, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

This interview was recorded on March 20, 2020, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. It features the spirit of Nu Yin, a being who had long been trapped in the cycle of resentment and demonic influence. Seeking deliverance from the endless cycle of retribution, the spirit approached Practitioner Su, who facilitated its purification and transition to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. The spirit now resides in the -Nature Land, where it continues to listen to the Dharma.
Nu Yin speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Nu Yin. Most people are completely unaware of the individuals I control—those whose inner hearts are filled with wild, restless, urgent, and fierce energy. When an event occurs, they see the end result immediately and rush to resolve the situation with the fastest possible speed. They despise being interrupted; whatever they intend to do, they must do it. They are perfectionists who obsess over their image. They do not care if their inner world is hollow or decaying, as long as their outer appearance is presented perfectly. We control these humans who carry hypocrisy within their hearts. These hypocritical individuals use 'frenzy' to mask their true selves. They are highly capable, yet they refuse to allow themselves or others to make mistakes. The first time, they might tolerate it; the second time, they begin to smoulder; by the third time, the great fire of confusion burns uncontrollably. They lack the soft, yielding power of tolerance. Often, when they see something that does not align with their expectations, their hearts churn, roll, and knot in agony. This specific state of mind perfectly aligns with our Demon Realm. We simply stand by and fan the flames, making their hearts more urgent, more restless, and more enraged, causing the fire to spread even further. Do not blame us for controlling you; we are merely cooperating with human habits. You express your emotions in this way, and although you often suffer internal injuries or allow this fire to burn into your internal organs and shake your entire body, humans are not afraid. You use this habit over and over again, and naturally, our power rises step by step."
The Mask of Concealment
"'Hidden' means to cover up, to shroud one's emotions, and to conceal one's . In the end, these people have the most intense feelings of all. They hide their inner hearts because they do not want others to understand them. They cover themselves layer by layer, and when you peel those layers back, you find nothing but layer upon layer of scars. If you were to expose these scars, you would find they are nothing special—just the common humanity that everyone possesses. But humans with this demon nature love to hide. When the fire of rage burns in their hearts, we immediately occupy their eyes, turning them into 'demon fire eyes,' and their body language begins to carry a violent, explosive aura. This fire makes the entire body feel uncomfortable, and even a large basin of cold water poured over the head is not guaranteed to calm them down. Let me tell you one more thing: usually, these people appear strong on the outside, but their character is actually timid. They are afraid of being hurt, and this is the greatest reason for their need to hide."
The Catalyst of the Pandemic
"I am you, and you are me. I hide in the human heart in this flickering, elusive way, fanning the flames at the right time. The arrival of this pandemic is due to the fact that there is too much dissatisfaction within the human heart—dissatisfaction with life and dissatisfaction with the social environment. The accumulation of this dissatisfied energy is like thick, dark clouds covering the sky; now, it has become so heavy that it has fallen, so heavy that it has begun to strike back. These people often blame heaven and others, never knowing contentment. Since they are so dissatisfied with this world, why not just leave it? We are also helping everyone by ensuring they do not have to live such a difficult life in this world."
A Sudden Purification
"When someone interfered with our mission, I arrived in a state of fury, carrying a hidden, lethal resentment. I transformed into a black sphere and rolled rapidly into this place, allowing Practitioner Su to feel our presence. When I manifested before him, preparing to speak loudly, Practitioner Su shouted, 'Purification!' My body was instantly scrubbed clean. That black, burning chest felt cool in an instant. Before I could even react, I had already been sent into the Dharma-Nature Land, which is the transit station for the Buddha's Pure Land. Listening to the Dharma there, I began to reflect on my past. I know I have a responsibility to speak out so that others do not follow in my footsteps."
The Tragedy of a Eunuch
"I was a eunuch during the Song Dynasty. I was the second son in my family, and we were extremely poor. To help my family's economy, I decided to enter the palace to become a eunuch, thinking that at least I would receive a stable salary from the imperial court. After entering the palace, I worked incredibly hard and gained the appreciation of the Chief Eunuch. I became his most capable assistant. Whether the tasks were large or small, if the Chief Eunuch handed them to me, I would complete them faithfully. However, this success invited the jealousy of many other eunuchs. They could not stand that someone who had just entered the palace could have such good performance and status! They made things difficult for me everywhere, but I endured it all. I remember before I left home, my mother told me to yield in everything, to not argue with anyone, to just focus on my work, and never to have the ambition of 'climbing the social ladder.' I kept everything my mother said in my heart. Therefore, I did not fight, I did not snatch, and I did not steal. I relied on genuine hard work, which is why the Chief Eunuch appreciated me."
Betrayal and the Path of Resentment
"Recently, I received a new assignment: to manage the sleeping quarters of the new imperial concubines and to arrange the jewelry and treasures bestowed upon them by the Emperor. These jewels were precious tributes from neighboring countries. However, someone secretly reported that I had lost the jewelry and even embezzled it. This was a crime of heaven-shaking proportions! How could I bear such a burden? Usually, the Chief Eunuch helped me, and every time I was framed, he helped me survive the crisis. But this time, it was a major matter reported directly to the Emperor, and everyone was searching for the missing items. When they searched my residence, everything was initially fine, but in the end, those treasures were discovered in an obscure corner. I became the palace thief. My heel tendons and wrist tendons were severed. I was supposed to be expelled from the palace, but because the Chief Eunuch spoke up for me, I was able to stay in a corner of the palace. I felt as if my whole body had been dismembered. I chose to 'endure,' but the physical inconvenience caused me great pain. I began to harbor resentment in my heart—resentment toward the wickedness of human nature."
The Final Act of a Broken Life
"After I could no longer move my hands and feet, I practised living using only my mouth, eventually mastering beautiful calligraphy. The characters I wrote became the decorations and spring couplets used during important festivals. The Emperor rewarded me with silver, but I did not feel anything special about it, because what use does a person who cannot move have for silver? I sent ninety percent of the silver back home. My survival in the palace was only to earn this salary to support my family. I never let my family know about anything that happened to me in the palace. Every time I sent a letter home, I wrote: 'I am doing very well, please do not worry.' I lingered on in a state of wretched existence, living with great difficulty. I never expected that those who had framed me would not leave me a way to live. Using the 'literary inquisition' of the court at that time, they added more charges against me and sentenced me to be cut in half at the waist. My heart burned with rage; I could not forgive them. At the very moment I stood on the execution ground, I was brave, because I was innocent. The moment I was beheaded, my character changed completely. I did not want to endure anymore. In this life, I never fought back against those who hurt me, yet I was still treated with heartless cruelty time and time again. I had enough of it all. The resentment in my heart reached its absolute limit. After I died, I became a dog—a large, black dog. I barked at everyone I saw, protecting my own territory."
The Demon's Confession
"I lived as a dog for several lifetimes. I hunted down those who had framed me and bit them to death. For several lifetimes, I lived in a state of vengeance. I thought I would go on like this forever. I never expected that the power of my resentment would continue to accumulate, following my black dog body into different spaces. I stood up from the dog's body, filled with power, and became a demonic force. For over eight hundred years, I have turned the dormant volcanoes in many people's hearts into active ones. As long as there is injustice or dissatisfaction in the heart, that fire cannot be stopped. Even if there is a moment of peace, their own personality soon causes it to flare up again. Oh, humans! As long as you are not content, we exist. We appear and disappear, controlling human emotions, clinging to the human heart. It has been like this for hundreds of years. We are there for those who have been wronged, we are there for those with intense personalities, and we are even more present for those who cannot stand the sight of others. Our omnipresence is simply the volatility of human nature."
A Choice to Let Go
"This pandemic is exactly the survival of the fittest and the elimination of the unfit. When human kindness does not exist, our demon nature comes to replace it. We are also helping this universe. We never expected that after eight hundred years, in a human nature that is increasingly declining, there would still be such a powerful force of Goodness. We had never seen it, and we found it hard to believe, which is why we came to observe. This Practitioner Su keeps giving Dharma talks, trying to wash away the stains of humanity. Practitioner Su, it is difficult! We admire your spirit. We can stop controlling humans, but humans always control themselves, so this cannot be blamed on us. My coming here means there is one less demon in the universe, and a little less demon nature. What I have achieved is just this. I still cannot trust human nature, but I choose to let go first. This is my greatest concession."
"The Buddha has bestowed upon me the Dharma name: Shi Jingjing."
