The Foundations of True Learning

To learn with goodness is to learn with focus, to learn with refinement, to learn with diligence, to learn with , to learn with mercy, to learn to let go, to learn to attain, and to learn without end. We must learn with a heart that encompasses all, maintaining a focus that is singular and unmixed. Engage in diligent practice without ceasing, and study with an untiring spirit.

The Heart of the Practitioner

True learning is rooted in the heart. We must cultivate the following virtues to progress:

  • Compassion and Letting Go: We learn the path of compassion and the art of letting go of attachments.
  • : By practising selflessness and the state of no-self, we serve the masses with a heart that knows no resentment and harbours no regrets.
  • Grounded Practice: We must learn to walk the path with grounded feet, accumulating merit and virtue step by step.

Until one reaches the state of an awakened being, one must continue to learn, for everything in the universe is a lesson. When the heart opens to liberation and one rediscovers the true self, all knowledge becomes crystal clear, understood perfectly within the heart.

The Ease of the Awakened Mind

The primary goal of our practice is to reclaim the true self, and then share this wisdom with those connected by karmic affinity. Once the true self is revealed, all learning becomes effortless and natural. One understands at a single glance, masters a skill upon the first attempt, and grasps the essence of all things without the need for great exertion. However, before one reaches the state of an awakened being, diligent practice and the willingness to listen are the essential requirements for learning. This message was transcribed by the chief writer, the Buddhist disciple Venerable HaiZe.
