The Essence of True Listening

The Precious Vessel of the Human Form

To the fourfold assembly of disciples at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, you are truly fortunate. Every single day, you have the opportunity to hear the words of the Buddha, the teachings of the masters, and the explanations provided by Practitioner Su. While the number of beings who hear the Dharma is countless, only you, the fourfold assembly, possess the precious human body. This human form is rare and invaluable because it allows you to put your vows into action. It provides the physical vessel necessary to carry out the work of saving beings in a tangible way.

A Vow to Save All Beings

The beings you are tasked to save include both those in the human world who possess a physical body and those in the spiritual realms who do not. When beings from the spiritual realms hear the Dharma, they have the opportunity to undergo a profound transformation. Through the process of repenting for their past actions, purifying their spirits, and receiving the illumination of the Buddha-light, they can elevate the quality of their spiritual existence. This allows them to be reborn into the human or heavenly realms, or, if they are beings who chant the name of Namo Amituofo, they may be led by Namo Amituofo to enter the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This entire process is the result of hearing the Dharma, having faith in the teachings of the Buddha, and truly listening to the guidance provided.

The Wisdom of True Listening

What does it mean to truly listen? It is the foundation of your practice and the key to your spiritual progress. Consider the many benefits of listening to the Dharma:

• Avoiding Karma and Transgression:
• By listening, you prevent yourself from creating new negative karma and violating the Precepts, which allows your heart to remain at peace, fostering meditative concentration and the blossoming of wisdom.Diligent Progress:
• Listening enables you to move forward with diligent practice, ensuring that you do not regress on your path toward becoming an awakened being.Purification:
• It helps you avoid the pollutions of the world, keeping your mind clear and focused on the goal of realising your true nature.Efficiency in Practice:
• Listening prevents you from walking down the wrong paths or wandering in circles, ensuring that you do not waste your precious time.Smoothness in Affairs: When you listen to the teachings, you align yourself with the truth, which allows all matters in your life and practice to proceed smoothly.
