The Essence of True Practice
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Third Day of the Disaster Relief and Blessing Dharma Assembly, 12 September 2019

What is the true essence of practice? What is the ultimate purpose behind our daily efforts? My child, I invite you to look within and examine yourself. What are the problems that you must face in your own life?
The Path Through the Storm
The path of practice is not always calm. It is a journey that tests the very fabric of your resolve. You must understand that it is only after you have navigated all trials and tribulations that your practice can truly grow and mature. Practice is not for the sake of living a comfortable life; rather, it is about transcending the duality of good days and bad days. It is about being at ease and knowing the Truth, and knowing that there are no hindrances.
Returning to Your Original Nature
Practice is for nothing else but to return to your own original, pure nature. It is pure and clean, as if having no desires, yet it is profoundly clear and luminous. Within this state, you will come to know that you can self-attain, self-realise, self-verify, and self-accomplish. You must realise that these qualities are already inherent within you; they are not something to be sought outside.
The as a Guiding Path
You must be careful not to follow confused methods. The Dharma cannot be obtained as a material possession; it is merely a path. You must open your heart to understand your own reality. The Buddha’s teachings are magnificent, clarifying the True Teachings for all beings. They are the interpretation of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. At the same time, in your practice, you must always remain aware. Namo Amituofo.
