The Reality of True Practice

During the third session of the , we are reminded of the profound nature of our spiritual journey. Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offers us a sobering yet vital teaching: "I have not yet seen a single person who is truly practising. If one were truly practising, they would have already become an awakened being!" This statement, echoed by Practitioner Su, is not merely a lament; it is a profound truth that serves as a mirror for every practitioner.

When we engage in what we might call "fake practice," our hearts remain stained by delusions and messy thoughts. This lack of purity brings suffering not only to ourselves but also to all creatures around us. In contrast, true practice is the manifestation of a pure heart and the revelation of our true self. It is the only path that allows us to effectively leave suffering behind for ourselves and all beings.

The Pillars of Authentic Spiritual Growth

True practice is fundamentally rooted in the presence of Faith, Vows, and Practice. It requires a complete and unwavering trust in both one's own potential and in the infinite of Namo Amituofo. To be a true practitioner, one must commit to "Living the Vows: The Direct Way to " without ever retreating from the path.

  • Endurance:
  • One must be able to endure what others cannot endure, and perform the deeds that others find impossible to undertake.Steadiness:
  • True practice is a grounded, step-by-step journey. It requires one to act with sincerity, working without the attachment to the idea of "doing," and yet never ceasing in the effort to accumulate merit and virtue.Clarity: One must actively cut off delusions, messy thoughts, and wandering reflections that cloud the mind.

Overcoming

As we face the various tests and challenges inherent in our practice, we must learn to break through every barrier that stands in our way. This requires immense boldness, determination, and the strength to overcome the obstacles of being drowsy and restless that often plague the mind.

Most importantly, true practice demands that we make a firm resolution to transform the "self," personal ego, and selfishness that we have carried through countless lifetimes. This is the work of cultivating a heart that is selfless, free from the ego, and entirely dedicated to the welfare of all beings. It is the embodiment of great compassion, great wisdom, and true, authentic action.

The Path to Ultimate Freedom

True practice is a rare treasure in this world. Those who succeed in this endeavour will inevitably see their true nature. By walking this path, one transcends the cycle of Aging, sickness, and death, finding true freedom in the face of mortality. When we chant Buddha's name together with a sincere heart, we are guided toward the of Ultimate Bliss. This is the only way to truly leave suffering behind and find eternal happiness. Recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
