The Founding of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre: A Dialogue with Namo Amituofo
Teachings from Namo Amituofo to Practitioner Su
Recorded on May 6, 2017
The Wisdom of the Ancestral Masters
On the morning of May 6, 2017, the disciple Practitioner Shi Faxi respectfully invited Namo Amituofo to provide guidance. The disciple asked whether the Buddha would speak on the of a specific fellow practitioner or offer general teachings for the benefit of all. Namo Amituofo responded with profound wisdom, urging the disciples to deepen their practice daily and to study the teachings of the ancestral masters with great sincerity.
Namo Amituofo taught that the words of the patriarchs are the absolute truth, rare and precious in the history of the Buddha’s teachings. One must take these teachings to heart and put them into action, ensuring that the lineage of the Buddha continues to flourish. By following the path walked by those who came before us, we ensure that the light of the remains bright for future generations.
The Humble Beginnings of Hsiang Kuang
Namo Amituofo then spoke of the history of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. Many years ago, this land was nothing more than a wild, arid expanse. It was a place where tall, dry grass swayed in the wind, kangaroos roamed freely, and the ground was teeming with insects and ants. To the ordinary eye, it was a desolate wilderness, yet it possessed a unique and profound purity.
When the foundation was first laid, the construction of the pure white buildings that now form the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre was a marvel to many. Even the venerable masters who visited were astonished by the speed and dedication with which the temple was established. The fourfold assembly of disciples worked with immense diligence, offering their resources and labour to build this sanctuary. Though time and karmic conditions eventually led many to depart, the seed of the temple had been sown.
Overcoming Obstacles through Faith
Following those early days, the community faced significant tests. There were moments of great difficulty and humiliation, yet Practitioner Su remained steadfast, holding firm to the belief in the power of the Buddha. Through this unwavering faith, new connections were formed, and disciples gathered once more with a single, unified heart. They invited spirits to listen to the Dharma, helping to clear obstacles and purify the environment of the temple.
Today, the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre stands as a testament to that perseverance. It is a place where Namo Amituofo truly abides. While it may be difficult for some to believe that such a magnificent scale could be achieved in such a short time, the hearts of the practitioners are filled with . The temple is now a beacon, opening its doors to welcome all beings and providing a permanent home for the light of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
The Mission to Save Endless Beings
Namo Amituofo reminded the disciples that the work of saving infinite suffering beings never stops. The temple is not merely a building; it is a manifestation of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss here in the human world. When the space is opened with a heart of , the celestial beings, the Dharma protectors, and the spirits of the ancestors all gather to offer their support. From the protectors of the Avatamsaka Sutra to the celestial beings of the heavens, all are present to guard this sacred ground.
The disciples must now continue to purify their hearts and minds, letting go of the ego to become true guides for others. By practising the path of Faith, Vows, and Practice, you will fulfil your mission. Do not let the illusions of the world cloud your vision. Instead, remain clear and awake, for the time is ripe to bring the light of the Dharma to all who are lost in the cycle of rebirth.
A Call to Diligent Practice
Namo Amituofo concluded by encouraging the fourfold assembly to cherish this rare opportunity. The teachings provided are not merely historical records; they are living truths meant to guide you to liberation. As you document the history of the temple and continue your daily practice, remember that every effort you make is a step toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Walk this path with joy and without attachment. By letting go of , you will find the freedom to navigate the world while remaining anchored in the Truth. Believe in the power of your vows, and together, we shall continue the work of saving all beings, leading them from confusion to , from wrong paths to the right path, and from impurity to purity. Namo Amituofo.
