On the nineteenth of May, 2019, during the first session of the , Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju provided these essential teachings on the nature of desire and the path to liberation.
The Honey on the Blade
Sensual desire is like honey spread upon the tip of a sharp blade. While the sweetness may seem tempting, the danger is as lethal as a sword. To keep your body and heart safe, you must distance yourself from such temptations. Do not allow yourself to become lost in these cravings, for once you are addicted to the allure of form and sensation, these habits will bind you tightly, making it difficult to break free.
The Fire of Attachment
The illness of desire begins within the heart. It burns through like a wildfire, leaving one to suffer in ways that are truly unbearable. It is a tragedy to waste this precious human life. While we may have physical bodies to continue our lineage, one must know when to stop. In our past lives, we have shed endless tears over the attachments of romantic love and worldly desire. We must realise that this physical body is merely an illusory appearance.
Using the Temporary to Find the Eternal
You must use this "temporary" body to find the "eternal" truth of your self-nature. If you can achieve this, you will not have come to this world in vain. Your practice is not only for your own liberation but also to save all beings. You must distance yourself from the distractions of the and maintain a body where the six roots are pure. Do not allow yourself to be stained by the dust of the world.
