The Vastness of the Ten Directions

Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe. The Ten Directions represent the entirety of the spatial dimensions within the Realm. These directions encompass the four cardinal points—North, South, East, and West—as well as the four intermediate directions—Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest—along with the zenith and the nadir. Within these ten directions, the entire void of the ten realms of existence is contained. The Ten Directions are boundless; they can be infinitely large, encompassing the entire cosmos, or they can be infinitely small, existing within the smallest particle of matter.

The Infinite Nature of Space

Regardless of the scale of space, whether it is vast or microscopic, the Ten Directions are always present. Within this infinite expanse, there are infinite beings residing in every corner. As practitioners, we must ask ourselves: in which direction are we heading? It is essential that you define your path clearly and move toward your ultimate goal with unwavering determination. Life is fleeting and precious; you must not allow yourself to become lost in the illusions of this world any longer.

The Clear Path of the Temple

Since you have entered the path of practice at this temple, you are walking in the footsteps of the enlightened. By following the guidance of Namo Amituofo, the teachings of your Teacher, and the work of Practitioner Su, your direction becomes exceptionally clear. There are two primary missions for our temple that you must keep at the forefront of your mind:

  • To rediscover your true self.
  • To save the world and guide all beings toward rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss.

These are the two great directions of our practice. Follow them closely, and proceed directly toward the West without hesitation.

The Guidance of the Bright Lamp

If you still find yourself feeling lost, or if you are a member of the fourfold assembly who has not yet been able to settle your heart, you are like a traveller wandering in the middle of a vast, boundless ocean. In such a state of confusion, the guidance of a bright lamp becomes absolutely vital. This bright lamp is the true spiritual friend, whose presence is indispensable for your practice. The Fragrant Light of this lamp shines brightly across the Ten Directions of the Dharma Realm, illuminating the way for all who seek the truth.

to Your True Purpose

Do not allow the corrosive feeling of uncertainty to erode your heart and your desire to seek the Way. It is time to awaken from your slumber. You must be proactive, diligent, and move forward with courage. Your practice is the key to leaving suffering behind and finding true happiness. Namo Amituofo.
