On the fourth of January, 2025, during the Noon Offering, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju provided profound teachings on the nature of our existence.

The Essence of Our Innate Ability

Innate ability refers to the power that we naturally possess, which is not restricted by the limitations of time or space. This encompasses three distinct aspects of our being: the innate ability of the physical body, the innate ability of the mind, and the innate ability of the spirit.

People often mistakenly believe that the physical body is all there is to their existence. They remain unaware that, under normal circumstances, the mind and the spirit are also contained within this physical vessel. They do not realise that there is a deeper, more expansive reality beyond the physical form.

Transcending the Physical Vessel

Through diligent practice and purification, one can elevate the essence of their spirit. When the spirit is purified, it is no longer constrained by the physical body. It can break through physical barriers and, according to the intent of the heart, move freely in and out of . This is the true, liberated innate ability of the spirit.

However, if the spirit has not undergone purification, it remains unstable. It tends to fluctuate, rising and falling along with the movements of the mind and the body. In such a vulnerable state, the spirit is easily influenced. It may even be drawn away or summoned by other beings from the spiritual realms. Once these beings take hold, they may lock the spirit within a specific space, causing the individual to lose their sense of self and direction.

The Clarity of a Purified Spirit

When the spirit is free from interference and has been purified, it possesses sharp, acute awareness. It can respond to situations immediately and with great speed. This is the state of a complete spirit—one where the three hun souls and seven po souls are intact and purified. This manifests through as a heightened, sensitive awareness that allows one to navigate the world with clarity.

Conversely, if you find that your Six Roots are reacting slowly, you must take note. If your movements become sluggish, heavy, or lethargic, it is a sign that your spirit is being influenced by external beings. This indicates that your three hun souls and seven po souls are no longer complete, and that the presence of attached spirits has increased, causing this heaviness and lack of vitality.

Guarding the Integrity of the Spirit

The fourfold assembly of disciples must be self-vigilant. You must be careful not to let your emotions fluctuate or allow the fire of anger to arise. These emotional outbursts are the primary reasons for disturbing the spirit and causing the three hun souls and seven po souls to scatter. When you lose your composure, you lose your spiritual integrity.

Therefore, maintain a calm and steady heart. By chanting Namo Amituofo, you protect your spirit and ensure your path remains clear. Do not let the distractions of the world pull you away from your true nature. Stay focused, stay pure, and let the light of Namo Amituofo guide you home.
