Those who walk the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, and realise them within their hearts, need not fear any interference from negative forces. Their hearts remain calm and undisturbed, like a still lake reflecting the moon. Even when these forces attempt to attack, whether by targeting the physical body of Practitioner Su or by casting a veil of lethargy over the fourfold assembly to draw them into illusory spaces, the practitioner remains awake and unafraid. One who is truly awake sees through these illusions instantly.
Standing Firm Against Illusions
These negative forces often seek to obstruct your clarity. They may attempt to induce a state of lethargy or confusion during the most critical moments of your practice. Their goal is to make you retreat, to cause you to delay your progress, or to tempt you into ignoring the wise counsel of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and your teachers. You must never follow these dark intentions. Instead, you must maintain a state of constant awareness and vigilance.
The Alchemy of and Wisdom
When you are faced with such attacks, you must respond with the power of your original nature. Do not meet violence with violence or anger with anger. Instead, you must:
- Use compassion to resolve all violence and anger.
- Use wisdom to dissolve all ignorance and confusion.
- Maintain firm faith in the Buddha and strengthen your vows.
- Follow the Buddha’s guidance to save all beings.
By remaining fearless in the face of physical discomfort and obstacles, you become a true practitioner who is capable of saving yourself and others.
A Daily Practice of Liberation
You must rely on the teachings of the Buddha, your teachers, and Practitioner Su to resolve the karmic debts that manifest before you. This is the path to true liberation:
- Purify your thoughts: Think only of what is good, look only upon what is good, speak only what is good, and act only in ways that are good.
- Invite spirits: Extend your compassion to all beings, change your personality traits, purify your intentions, and practise with diligent self-effort.
- Engage in daily practice: Through the multiple channels of performing prostrations, chanting Namo Amituofo, and reciting the Sutras, you will find the strength to move forward.
When you combine self-effort with the power of the Buddha, you will find that saving yourself and being saved by the Buddha is a goal that can certainly be realised. As you nurture your compassion and wisdom, your spiritual nature will naturally grow and flourish.
The Strength of Unwavering Faith
Fearlessness is born from a firm and unwavering faith in the Buddha and in your own potential for . It arises from the vow to save yourself and to follow the Buddha in saving all suffering beings. In your practice, you must hold fast to the dual support of your own effort and the Buddha’s power, walking straight ahead without looking back. Compassion, the willingness to change your ways, the courage to face your , and a spirit that refuses to retreat—these are the essential methods for overcoming any interference. Namo Amituofo.
