The Natural Flow of the Spirit

Non-action, or Wu Wei, is the art of aligning oneself with the natural order. Because we possess a physical body, our life force manifests in this world. Yet, our true spirit is neither born nor does it ever perish; it remains eternal, untouched by the transient nature of the physical realm.

The Entanglement of Worldly Pursuits

In contrast, action—or You Wei—is the state of being caught up in worldly pursuits. When conditions arise, we act; when conditions fade, we disperse. We are often trapped by the Five Aggregates: form, , , impulses, and . Because we have a physical body, these aggregates are constantly in motion, becoming the source of our pain and leaving our spirit wounded.

Transcending the Cycle of Reincarnation

When our feelings, perceptions, impulses, and consciousness are agitated, we enter the realm of consciousness and create karmic results. This is why we remain trapped in the cycle of being reincarnated, unable to find rest. It is far better to cultivate a heart that is calm and level, allowing us to preserve the purity of our body, mind, and spirit.

Cultivating the True Self

Do not allow these aggregates to disrupt the peace of your heart. You must learn to use the false to cultivate the true. Only then can you attain the meditative concentration necessary to leave suffering behind and find true happiness. This is the great cultivation required to see your true self. Life is short; cherish every moment to reach the point of .

The Mission of Saving Beings

Returning to your true self is your fundamental duty. Whether in action or non-action, you can remain at ease. The great can encompass the small, and the vast can embrace the minute. By dedicating your practice to helping infinite beings achieve rebirth in the , you fulfil the ultimate mission of a practitioner. Only by working to save the world and deliver beings from suffering can you truly achieve the path of Buddhahood.
