The Challenge of Persistence

The path of practice is a long and arduous journey. How many practitioners can truly persist until the very end? If one fails to maintain this resolve and instead falls into the trap of creating negative , is that truly worth the price of one's spiritual life? It is a question that every practitioner must ask themselves with absolute sincerity. To falter on this path is to risk the very progress one has worked so hard to achieve.

Counteracting Afflictions and Habits

To succeed, you must find effective ways to counteract your afflictions and deep-seated habits. The sooner you face these challenges, the sooner you will find success in your practice and realise your nature as an awakened being. When you achieve this , you become a source of salvation for others, which is the greatest blessing for all beings. This process of transformation requires a disciplined approach to your inner life:

  • Change your personality traits: Soften the rigid edges of your character that hinder your spiritual growth.
  • Break through ego-attachment and false views: Recognise that the 'self' you cling to is the primary obstacle to your liberation.
  • Sever the influence of the and : Do not let the allure of wealth, fame, food, sleep, or sensory distractions pull you away from the path.
  • See through and let go: Understand the impermanent nature of all phenomena and release your attachments to them.

These are the essential steps that every practitioner must undergo to achieve success in their practice.

The Power of Resolve and Buddha's

Your practice depends entirely on your personal determination and perseverance. You must persist until the very end, refining your heart until it is pure and good. Do not speak lightly of giving up, even when the path seems difficult. Remember that your own efforts are the foundation, but they are always supported by the Buddha's blessings. When you are pure and good, you are in harmony with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.

Facing Suffering and the Final Journey

When you find yourself burdened by illness or suffering, you must take the time to examine your own words and actions. Often, it is our own past conduct that has caused these conditions to manifest. Use this as an opportunity to improve your behaviour and continue your practice with renewed vigour. If your condition becomes life-threatening, you must immediately raise your vow to be reborn in the . How should you do this? You must hold fast to your vow with unwavering faith. Chant Namo Amituofo continuously, twenty-four hours a day. This is the signal that invites the Buddha to lead you home. When you remain connected to the Buddha and your vow does not waver, the Buddha will surely grant your wish and joyfully welcome you back to the Western Pure Land.
