The Path of Seeking Within
Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju

During the third session of the , we are reminded of the essential nature of our practice. The Buddha’s teachings are the teachings of the heart. You must seek the within your own heart, for there is no Dharma to be found outside of it. Everything you search for in the external world is merely a reflection of your own internal state.
The Infinite Nature of Purity and Goodness
Once you have achieved a level of purity, you must strive to purify yourself further. Purity has no end; it is a continuous, unfolding process that deepens as you advance. Similarly, once you have performed acts of Goodness, you must strive for even greater Goodness. Goodness is boundless, and your capacity for it is infinite. Do not become complacent with your current progress, but continue to cultivate a heart that is ever more refined and compassionate.
The Vigilance Against One's Own Faults
You must be careful not to look for the faults of others. When you focus on the mistakes of other people, you only serve to pollute your own heart with negativity and judgment. Instead, focus entirely on your own shortcomings. Your own faults are like thieves hiding in your home, stealing your peace and your merit. You must catch these thieves immediately; do not leave any room for them to hide or grow. You must change your ways without delay, for only through this rigorous self-correction can you remove the stains of impurity that cloud your true self.
Returning to the True Self
Even the slightest trace of grey mist or the smallest grain of dust must not be allowed to remain in your heart. If they exist, you must eliminate them completely. Do not tolerate even the smallest attachment or negative thought. Only when you have cleared away every last trace of these obstructions will your heart become clear and transparent. In this state of absolute clarity, you will finally be able to realise your true self and return to the source of your self-nature.
